What's that dear? Sorry I cant hear you over the sound of my fans! Come back later with my dinner..

Yes that's right! The "mistress" the one that keeps you up til the wee hours of the night while the missus sleeps. What does it look like? Is it as noisy as mine? or do you have a wisper quiet watercooled monster? Enquiring minds wish to know..

I think I may have bought that case as early as 2003.

I recently did some benching at 4.8ghz and I didn't break 60c. Granted, IBT can get it higher.

Desk is comprised of two speakers and a door.

My system isn't whisper quiet, but at idle it's pretty silent. Most of the fans are temperature controlled except the two in the front (one behind the hard drive cage, one visible), which run at a constant 7V via the built-in fan controller).

Temps top out at 84C in IBT, bit higher with Aida64 FPU-only. With games, that don't use AVX, CPU temps are in the low 60's.

At full load, I'm usually running a game so I don't really care about the noise. Still, 140mm fans aren't that annoying compared to the 60mm and 80mm fans we used to have.

In case you're wondering, that 450W PSU is perfectly adequate even at 4.5 GHz. Running Unigine Valley, it tops out at 320W. Aida64 FPU+GPU, which is the most stressful test you could possibly run, it tops out at 405W.

Two more from different angles. Those are all 140mm fans

Just for fun, my old Phenom II system:

It feels good to finally have a decent case. Cable management and even small upgrades like replacing a hard drive was a pain with the old case.

Heres a recent customer build where he wanted a 24/7 OC of 4.5 - 4.6ghz on his 4770k but didn't want to fork out for custom watercooling , Pick show his rig under diagnostics while stress testing.

I do my builds in the kitchen as the bench is the perfect height so that you can build without bending down. My wife loves it! just ask her.. ;)

Ive mentioned this build in another thread but thought it worth sharing again as it goes to show with decent airflow you can get a rock solid 4.6ghz on a 4770K with a single 120mm Rad with 120s in push pull at decent temps (maxing temp under 24hour prime95 76C).

Maxs PC : 4770K @4.6ghz 1.3v with CM Seidon 120XL / Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H / SLI EVGA 670 4GBs / 32GB Kingston Beast 2400 / Xonar Essence STX / Samsung 840 512GB /2TB Seagate barracuda /blu ray burner , lite on I think /FSB Aurum Pro 1000W / CM Storm Stryker

Its not all roses! the problem with working on this many displays at the same time is you sometimes loose the mouse curser...and my chairs starting to creak loudly under my fat ass from all the swiveling..

I really wanted a DD tourtor rack, but they cost a pretty penny and DD to my dismay went out of business :(

Now I just checked and they're still up?

???

Still $150, ugh my wallet.

Nice setup Elfear

Thanks Balla.

I had no idea DD was having issues. Glad to hear they're still around.

I like your simplistic approach. Makes component changes really easy I'll bet. ;)

That's one of the reasons I've come to like the open bench style cases. Trying to run tubing and upgrade parts inside a case is kind of a pain.

Lets not pretend it's anything other than what it is, a cost cutting measure :D

Yeah awhile back I saw it, everyone was saying his wife died and that they were going out of business. I think the site even had a notice about closing. I dunno if the wife part is true or not though.

May I ask why you dropped to two 7970's? Was it because of bitcoin mining drying up, or the driver only affecting two cards, or because you're preparing for the next wave of cards?

Must say those out of case and test bench setups look pretty sweet! luv the dual reservoirs Elfear

Heres a build from last year with custom loop in a corsair 600T. Guy works in IT and wanted a stable 24/7 OC on his 3770K. Turned out to be his day of lucky as his CPU could do 4.8ghz on 1.34v while staying under 70C at full load. He works in pretty dull environment and wanted a side window to brighten things up a bit..

:awe:

Ease of assembly is just a bonus then.

I was up to four at one time and then bitcoin mining dried up so I sold two. Thought about running Trifire but it didn't scale all that well for the games I'm currently playing (Borderlands 2 and Source games) so I decided I'd run two until next gen shows up.

By the way, I'm still jelly that your 4670k OCs so well. You seriously got a golden chip with that one.

Thanks Piklar. I really like the clean look of your builds. Looks like something a corporate executive would have next to his giant desk.

I think the best OC I have ever gotten was around 20%.

My greatest achievement though was building a PC that ran at ~80db.
Beyond annoying, it was painfully loud after an hour or so.
Imagine sticking your ear next to the intake on a shop vac.
You can literally feel the power, it's fantastic!

Thanks Jaydip.

Maybe running without a case is Balla's good luck charm for picking golden chips. ;)

:D

The first rig we built for my brother was like that. Had a pair of Delta Tornado fans that made it painful to work on. I remember running stress testing on it and my wife about killed me. "Never again!" she said. Made it easy to talk her into watercooling. ():)

They key thing in DD TRacks is symmetry... I dont know what to say more about it... but that's what made me cave in a long time ago.

Looked like crap, but it worked good for the money, haha.

ae0bd837_zps3cd10c31.png~original

Used a Rasa 240 kit and added a 360 rad on it.

Ended up moving the rads outside because the fans were just awful, plus it was cold out. Also grabbed another i5-2500k and for a time I was running 5.5GHz on the i5 and 950 on the 470 cores, still ran on ice water.

Then I was going to go WS Revo with Tri SLI and a 4th for PhysX...

6d5f9d36_zps39c50254.jpg~original

I got talked out of that, and water cooling though. Now I just have all air, with quiet fans :(

balla u know you want to be here...

Once u watercool gpu's... u seriously can never go back...

Something about seeing 50C+ on gpus... :\
You NEVER see that on water.. even overclocked and 100% loaded... unless u planned wrong, or you live in the desert with no AC.

For example... average idle temps on a titan class is roughly anywhere near 32-35C idle... its lower then body temp..
Then loaded.... i have yet to see one break 50C under a well planned system, and this is with TRI SLI even.

If it was up to me I'd pull my water cooling stuff out of the closet next to me.

However I am no longer the boss of me.

I do what I'm told, or get the hose again :(
