You misspelled "hand waiving away" Baldwin's responsibility for this accident.

As the persecution argued today, this is a case where an equipment operator AND executive was playing make believe with real firearms and killed someone carelessly.

A rich, famous and well connected and well lawyered actor dumping all the responsibility for the appalling disregard for safety in the workplace on the little person is horrific, but also a story as old as time.

Thought Democrats were better for protecting workers, and not just siding with management/owners, but I guess not when the rich guy also dunks on Trump.
You misspelled producer. I agree Alec is likely going to face consequences as a producer.

An actor shouldn't ever face prosecution unless he didn't follow actor protocols, no matter how rich or powerful the actor is. Once someone told him cold gun or whatever, his responsibility as an actor ended IMO.

Just as actor maybe legally, but he also blew off safety training and didn't follow procedures. OJ was acquitted, so I'm not placing any big bets on it.

Regardless I will still maintain he acted recklessly and violated all rules of safe gun handling and this is the result. This is why there are such regimented and strict rules. Ignore them, downplay them, get too comfortable.. Bam. Avoidable accident happens and good chance someone is dead.

Safety is everyone's responsibility. I don't know where you all work, but I've worked on dangerous environments, and being an idiot and blaming the safety guy was never an acceptable response (unless you want a workplace like this where people get hurt/ killed for stupid reasons.)

This has all been hashed out a bunch of times in this thread. A movie set is not your average workplace. The armorer checks and clears the gun before calling cold gun. If the actor then checks the gun in any way, the armorer is supposed to stop production, and clear the gun again. Following common gun safety like check it yourself is likely actually against safety protocols on set. Just stick to producer and stop adding to the nonsense.

At least for this trial I read the judge won’t allow Baldwins position as producer to be considered

Who points a 40 caliber revolver at someone during rehearsals, pulls the trigger and lies about it? Alec Baldwin. Hollywood has had more action shows and movies with a ton of fire fights and rounds are discharged with no serious injuries since The Crow in 1993. That is an excellent safety record. There should have never been any kind of ammo in the gun during a rehearsal. It's not just the failure of an incompetent prop master. There seems to have been a total absence of a safety team in place to provide redundancies to prevent incidents. Alec Baldwin has been in Hollywood for decades. He has been in films where firearms were used. They even tell actors never to point a weapon directly at a person at any time.

But not prosecuted and jailed.
You don’t get prosecuted and jailed* when you aren’t responsible.

(*except potentially when some political actors want to make an example out of you because you are on the wrong political team)

American movies have actors point guns at the camera (and camera men) all the time

Conservatives have a lot of issues understanding responsibilities especially when it comes to guns.

Agreed, the actor isn't supposed to be trusted with clearing the firearm, the armorer is. The producer is responsible for the armorer, but the actor should be free of blame if they followed instruction.

Did anyone already bring up the similarities between this and what happened to Brandon Lee? Who was charged when he was killed?

Entirely different scenario. Brandon Lee was killed by a squib load, not a live round.

How is different? A gun was used and a person was killed. I don’t see how the type of projectile makes one excusable and the other not.

I mean, a squib load from a blank is an accident that (at the time) nobody could have foreseen nor prevented, may as well said 'he pulled a firearm and a bolt of lightning killed the guy, how was it not his fault?'. An actual, live round has no business on a movie set. Someone is responsible for bringing that on the set.

If you're not familiar with what a squib load is, you should read about it, it's not a 'human accident' kind of thing.

With guns, there are no accidents. Only negligence.

That's why the entire production team needs to be charged. Not just Alec. How come only Alec's name gets dragged into the mud whereas the other culpable members of the production team are roaming scot free? What about the idiot AD who shouted COLD gun? What about the A-holes who were using real guns and real ammo for shooting practice in off-duty hours around the ranch? Why haven't they been identified? The investigation has been stupid.
