can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I keep getting crazy frame rates like this

Halflife 2: lost Coast

all settings were at 1280x1024, 4x AA, 16x AF, all setting to High, reflect all, Full HDR....I even had the CCC set to 4x AA and 16X HQ AF to force those settings, but my frame rates seem to be stupidily high.

With the X1950Pro I dont think so...... It seem the 512MB is helping alot.... Nice frames....

so, tell me what I missed then

Read the my post again... My original sentence is confusing...

Alex

HL2 settings

Catalyst settings

these are the settings that I'm using.

Surely the 670+mhz that I have over the test rig in the Firing Squad link wouldn't make a 20+ fps difference...would it?

I do not see why not.... I mean you have a high OC and a nice 512 MB which allows for better FPS at higher details and resolutions... Also if you see I get about 53 FPS and that puts me in the 7900GS, X1950Pro territory, so I dont see why your systems would not score 20 FPS higher than mine.

Even so, 512mb wouldn't make that much difference, I'm not even overclocking my Sapphire...I know ATI's perform well in HL2 but that's crazy for those settings with my hardware...but then again my OC'd 7800GS used to score in the high 50's in that benchmark, using similar settings (no HQAF, only AF in Nvidia drivers).

It makes me wonder how much faster my rig will be, once I upgrade to an OC'd E4300 and Asrock 775 4coredual VSTA...

Here I ran the test again with 6.6 driver vs 7.1 driver and check it out an almost 10 FPS increase... Now we are only 10 points higher than me... What drivers are you using..? I went from 7.1 to 6.6 as I noticed bad performance in COD2. Also the 6.6 I downloaded was suppoused to be Autodesk Inventor 11 aproved, but nada....

61.26 FPS ave Lost Coast

I'm using the 6.12's...I can't test any earlier versions...they don't support my X1950Pro.

so I guess the rig in the Firing Squad link was under performing then.

I got almost the same FPS with my 7800GS...it must be a limiting factor in that benchmark.

I just ran it again at 1600 x 1200 4X AA, 16X AF, Everything as high as possible and I got 57.77 FPS.... The X850XT PE is not slouch..... And I do not have SM3.0 which it gives an advantage in LC....

Yes stumps the 670+ mhz will make a difference the source engine is very cpu dependant also.

Ohh wait, I thought that at high res. the CPU does not matter.... Or so you said...

it doesn't for some games, but it is possible to be both Cpu and videocard bottlenecked. Which one u hit first depends on the game and your rig.

I think it really depends on what Graphics engine the game is using...some are more reliant on CPU power while other need a beefy GPU.

Nice RIG.... I dig it.. That 2 GB of RAM helps alot... Once I get the X1950Pro or XT I should see a nice increase in performance until I get my conroe or else. Now do you still think the Pentium M is slow? I mean 57.77 FPS on high settings is not bad at all, the X850XT PE is bottlenecking me...

PS 10,000 RPM... Not RPMs... The no such a thing as RPMs....
PSS where are those shots...?

lol tell the mod at anandtech to fix that, u can't edit that field.

I just installed the 7.2 drivers and now talking to some girl on the phone, i'll do it shortly.

And sir if u read all my post in this thread I never once said the pentium M was slow.

Just those COD 2 numbers are off.
