I probably have one of the fastest AGP system here and I would be delighted to own a X1950XT 512MB. Now I would do just fine with a X1950Pro 512MB... I still have a X850XT PE and I am fine for now...

You'll need a lot more cpu then that (2.8) to see the benifits of a 1950pro. well unless you run your games at 1900x1024

Do me a favor and educate yourself on the Pentium M (Dothan)...... I know of some getting 10K+ in 05 with the X1950Pro with the M... Being the fastest single core CPU in the market......

Hey you learn something new everyday? So a Dothan is faster then a fx-57 or pent 4 extreme edition at 3.8 or whatever it is. Sorry I never seen it on any CPU charts. You don't have to bite my head off !

JUST SHOW ME A LINK!!

I am not going to show you any links, but I get about 32K+ depending on settings in 01... If you want to know more research. XtremeSystems has alot of info as well as EOCF..

I did a little research I stopped at the 300.00$ price tag and performance on par with a pent 4 at 3.4 when overclocked like 800mhz. As for your scores in 01? I haven'thad 01 since ahh 2002. That benchmark dosen't mean a thing. Give me your 06 score.... OH you have a x850xt ...well your sm3 score...never mind.

That is wrong. A stock 760 is comparable to a 3.2 P4 and OCed 800 MHz is comparable to a P4@4.5+ GHz..... 06 Score is about 2600 without SM3.0..... 05 is about 7300... I get about 150 AVG FPS @ 1600 X 1200 with 6X AA 16X AF in HL2..... Certainly ALOT fastern than my P4E@ 3.6GHz in alot of things including FS9.

So thats a fast Agp rig? wow mines faster then I thought and 5 years old. If I was you I'd get that x1950pro/xt and enjoy!

Lets use a real game to benchmark not hl2. I beat that game with my Geforce ti4400 med setting at 1280x960.

With FEAR 1600x1200 max quality (nofsaa,no soft shadows, trilinear)
Max 69,average 39,minimum 26

My buddies x850xt @ 526/600 get 59 ,31,18. He has a fx-55 overclocked to 2.8

How is yours faster without any proof? My CPU is much faster than yours. Last time I checked here a A64@2.8 GHz with a 7800GS with a high OC was only 150 marks faster than mine in 05.....

Your cpu is faster then mine. That means you play games faster then me at low resolutions. My video card is faster though. The only thing your system does faster then mine is 3d mark;) Goodnight it's bed time

OK... Yeah my CPU is about 2 YO and the other components are a wee older. I have had the X850XT PE since it came out in 05. The P4C800 DLX is quite older. Before I went to a P-M I was on a P4E@3.6GHz and it was not nearly as fast as my new set up. I gained lots of FPS just by switching to a P-M. The other system slightly faster than mine was a A64@2.89GHz with a 7800GS @ 550MHz core and much faster RAM than my X850XT PE @ 580/695 MHz and it was only faster by about 150 marks in 05.... With the P4 @ 3.6 GHz I could barely score about 6400 Marks in 05 with the same card. Now if I do get a X1950Pro I should get about 10K+ in 05 and about 5K in 06. What are your scores?

I have not tried the FEAR bench as I do not have fear. My systerm is much faster than yours. Your GPU would only be faster at SM3.0 games and that depends. I mostly play MSFS.. My CPU is alot faster than a FX55@ 2.8 GHz and with a 2MB L2 it helps alot in games and 3D rendering... With a X1950Pro/XT your system would not even compare...

That's the title of the thread, isn't it?

I want one, personally. $300 is too much, but they'll come down fast I'm sure.

hey, don't bring my system in to the arguement, it hasn't done anything wrong....but it would completly smoke your setup now....X1950Pro FTW (or is that FTL because it's a Sapphire  ) 9100+ 3dmarks in 05....

Hahahaha.. As long as the Sapphire is serving you well, you should not say FTL. How is the OC with it? It cannot be beat for the price... Ohh BTW Once I get mine I WILL be breaking the 10K Barrier as others with the M and similar clock speeds have done so. What do you recomend? The Pro, or should I wait for the XT?

How much did you pay for your X850XT? Are you planning on keeping it for another PC or selling it?

Keep in mind that you aren't going to see as much of an improvement as others of us who upgraded from older cards, like me going from 9800 Pro 128MB (DDR, 128 bit) to x1950 Pro 256MB (DDR3, 256 bit).

While putting your dollar into the video card is the best way to get the most performance in games these days...I gotta say I personally would want to get off of AGP if I was still on it. I grabbed that asrock dual board as a transitionary piece awhile back and then board a PCI-E card later on. AGP is still plenty able to do the job, but your selection of high end AGP cards is slim and there's always a good sized premium to pay.

The 7800GS is not a bad card, but in the 60% of benchmarks is outperformed by the X850XT PE at stock speed both, http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=382&card2=57 Pentium M is a better CPU for gaming than most P4 HT by a significant margin, particularly in low resolutions (1280x1024 or below) and CPU dependent games like Half Life 2, but in GPU limited games like Oblivion, the difference is minimal. In general purpose tasks like Video/Audio Encoding, Multi-Tasking, and applications that requires a lot of FPU processing, the P4 is ahead of the Pentium M by a significant margin, even though P4 Prescott is slower than the Northwood revision. I can say that in gaming, AgonxOC has a better PC for gaming (The difference is not huge but considerable wherever is applicable) and the Happy Medium P4 can be a bit faster in other Apps even though it's 533MHz FSB is a severe limiting factor for a bandwidth hungry P4. Both have good PC's so enjoy the life

It can't OC for sh!t...maybe with a better cooler it might do a bit better, but the most I've reliably had it up to has been 603 core and 1425 mem...not even worth OCing as that small increase does squat for the performance and with Sapphires bad reputation with the X1950Pro...it could be a death sentence for the Video card, so I just run it at stock speeds...not that it matters much, it's bloody fast as it is now...but not a huge improvement over my 7800GS but decent none the less.

If your P-M is as fast as you say it is(judging from the benchies you posted awhile back it is)I'd say go the whole hog and get the XT...your CPU can use it ...but a PRO is still a very good choice as well....just be careful when buying one....they aren't known for being reliable.

There's no such Radeon 9800PRO 128-bit, they're called Radeon 9800 SE which comes with 8 pipelines on a 128-bit bus, another flavor of it is the one with 256-bit bus only 4 pipelines.

9800 Pro specs

I stand corrected! Nevertheless, the jump from 9800 Pro to X1950 Pro is significant. I'm unsure going from an X850XT --> x1950 Pro or XT would be enough of an improvement to spend $225-$300+

Is not a huge jump, but is about 30% average if you jump from the X850XT, it can be more, it can be less depending of the type of the game, the difference is more noticeable in high resolutions with Anti Aliasing and Heavy intensive shader games like Oblivion. The jump from any 9800 to a X1950PRO is incredible. The 9800 SE cards are not manufactured directly by ATi, that's why it won't appear on their pages, it's some kind of special sku manufactured by third parties like Sapphire. They run a bit faster than the 9600XT, so the 9800 SE means Slow Edition or Sluggish Edition or whatever you like to name it :p
