Sometimes, it's best not to push your luck. Maybe the 4090 is fine, after all.I could not get the Gigabyte Control Center software to work so I updated the firmware (not bios) from version 1 to 1.1.
Well my happiness was short lived. I gamed several hours last night and used the pc for work this morning. I could not get the Gigabyte Control Center software to work so I updated the firmware (not bios) from version 1 to 1.1. and it said it was successfully done and the last step was to shut down. After that the PC will not boot at all. The keyboard lights don’t come on or anything. I think it’s dead. Going to reach out to support.
edit: gigabyte told me over the phone there is nothing I can do and to consider it DOA and return. Newegg accepted the replacement so I’ll mail it back. Fingers crossed it comes on with the old card.
2nd edit: somehow that update killed the entire pc. I can’t boot even without a gpu using the integrated graphics. Bios error code on the mobo flashes between 3 and 15 is all I get. I am having trouble identifying what those codes mean.
I think it's Gigabyte's own fan/RGB controller on the card that needed the firmware update.- Don't forget to go to twitter and rally up a lynch mob against Gigabyte/Nvidia and repeat this story for the next 20 years about how NV firmware/drivers suck![]()
No. This is MURDER. Plain and simple. The Machine Spirit in that rig might have just gotten old, and this is how it tells you its time for a system refresh.
Sounds plausible.
- That firmware triggered an unusual condition on the card that caused a transient power spike or something.
There is no warning sticker on the box saying, "Don't use with old systems".why put a 4090 on this old system that is going to hold it back so much?
That's really bad. Hope you can just copy the database to some other PC (maybe a laptop?) and pay your bills.Depression: I can’t even pay my bills because my passwords are on a database on my PC and I have gamed every night for the last 10 years and now I can’t.
