Hey I started having a wierd issue that I hope has been solved. I would get home from work and the PC would be very sluggish. I would try to open something and it would take like a minute. The first few times a reboot solved it but then it started doing it regardless. So I thought it might be ram, so I relaxed the timings (seti went slower though) and it still did it. So the last thing I remember doing a few nights ago was downloading the latest drivers for my video card. So I uninstalled and went back to the ones off the cd. So far so good, but the real test is when I get home. Also looks like my other stick of ram should be here today! Yipeee!!! So I may have another stick of crucial for sale soon. Or I may keep it and put it in the 8k3a+ when I get that back.

I have mentioned in a few posts here and in OC the thing about video drivers, specifically a bad interaction between a newer detonator driver and office apps & windows help system. Exactly the same effects as you are seeing too.

here's one of them in which I mention a couple other threads that don't seem to want to come up at the moment when I click them (weird).

Hmmm. Interesting. I guess we shall see later when I get home! I hope that solved everything. But I am sitting here at my desk, getting ready to go to lunch and staring at me is a beautiful blue stick of hyperx ram. This stick really looks sharp. Let's hope that it performs as good as it looks! ;)

i think seti does like higher fsb speeds...

upped my fsb from 209 to 218... seti WU times dropped a few minutes...

of course i dropped it!!! 11.5 x 218 = 2.5 ghz!!! hehehe... that'd be nice...

i'm EXPECTING at least 2.5 when i get my water setup tomorrow...

so it's hummming along at 11 x 218.35 = 2401 :)

Just got finished on my first Ars WU :)

2h29.29m for my 1700@11.5x180 2-2-2-5

Pretty nice, since my best so far have been 2h50 for a 0.417 WU :p

Shimmishim, how did your Epox 8RDA + Die ? And what board are you using now ?

If I had a motherboard that allowed VDD voltage changes in the bios, I would up my FSB from 185... but I have problems at 190 or higher. I know my ram is hitting its limits.

Though I am perfectly pleased with 185fsb/2.23ghz with this 1700 + B chip

:)

I am averaging 2hr24 min times... some recent results

well...

i was attempting to do the vdd mod :( everything was hooked up right...

next thing i know... i look into my case.. i see a BRIGHT orange color and a resistor next to the vdd resistor is burning...

so board dies... oh well!

now i am running a abit nf7-s 2.0 ... runs great... did the vdd mod to this board...

involves a pencil so it was much nicer to me... and everything worked out great!

i MIGHT try to see if this thing will boot up at 228... but i don't know if it will.. may need better ram first...

Well I could not wait. I have a fan on the northbridge so I thought what the heck. I am at 200x11.5@2300. Now we shall see if it lasts the night. My new hyperx is running 2-2-2-6. So far so good. Looks like I will be selling this corsair and getting a matching stick to run in dual. Will I need to relax the timings a bit to run in dual? I hope to be close to that 2 hr wu mark now.

I put that stick of hyperx in last night, it purred at 200x11.5 2-2-2-6. Was smokin! Then I started getting that sluggishness, so thinking it was something I may have installed, I ghosted back to an image I made last week. Still did it! I was kinda pissed. So not knowing what else to do I closed setihide just to see. Well the computer perked up! So I started it back, slowed down. So I opened up aida32 and looked at my power. My +5 rail was all the way down to 4.68v plus the others were a little wacky. So I turned off setihide again and the +5 went up to 4.85. System ran great. So I put everything back to stock, except running at 166fsb and with full load the system ran great, +5 was running 4.85 and all was stable.

I have an enermax 350 I am going to try. This was the PSU that I bought when I was overclocking my 8k7a, then I had to buy the 430 watt I have now because it ran tha +5 rail too low on my 8k3a+. Now it looks like the 430 does not like the 8rda+......MAN! So I am going to try the 350 tonight and see if that helps, otherwise O need to buy a new psu. This board has cost me more money than I wanted between having to get a new video card because it would not work with the kyroII card I had and now possibly a new psu.

This board reminds me of my ex girl friend, picky and has no clue what it wants to make it happy!

lol

Btw don't relie on the bios to show accurate voltages ,use a multimeter to check voltages before you write the PSU off.

OK how would I go about doing that. Also I am not putting too much into the readings, but I see enough to know that the +5 rail while my system is overclocked and under full load is too low and causing issues. But I will try the multimeter thing, but how do I check........I took electronics years ago and forgot most of it. :(

With a voltmeter, or multimeter check between a red & black for +5v DC & between the yellow and black for +12v DC (red & yellow are + black is ground)
I just take one of the plugs that isn't connected to anything and insert the probe ends in the corresponding holes - from the back on a male plug & from the front on a female plug. If you have things connected to all your connectors then just check in the back of one of the plugs.
That sounds a bit weird, ;) but that's how I do it.

So I assume this is with the computer on right? I do have a couple of free plus, I just stick the prong in the hole? Thanks
