Just when you thought this thread was going to die and sink to the bottom........muahahahaha!!!

Just wanted to share my happiness....I just discovered that my 8RDA+ is a C1 stepping, which people are reporting to be very great overclockers. So when my ram gets back from RMA we shall see if I am one of the chosen lucky ones!

How do you find that out?
Is that on the Northbridge chip?

Btw what WU times are you getting?

Well, all my parts have arrived, so I guess I know what to do the next couple of days :)

Also got a new PS Antec TP 430 :p
changed from an Enermax 430 modded to use a Papst 12DB fan only..

Dropped my temps 2C, nice...

Now to setup the 8RDA+..

Cant wait to check the nb version /crosses fingers

I just checked - I also have an A2 chipset revision.

Good luck guys, and let us know about seti times as well as the heights of overclock ;)

A2 for me also. Which version is supposed to be the best (fastest @ Seti ;) )?

I dunno, but those of us with A2 on Asus boards can't seem to get over 178fsb absolutely stable :(
What's your fsb & mfg of board smokeball?

Well according to a some of the people over at amdmb.com forums, the C1 stepping is the one people are having the most luck with.

Just a small update..

I got the C1 version of the NB, and A3 of SB :D

Now, I am testing the RAM, but preliminary results say it cant handle 185MHz@2-2-6 cas 2 :(
Trying to run it in spec 185MHz@3-3-7 cas 2.. and then I will se if it goes any higher :)

But really happy I got the good version :p

Well, I havent begun to up the CPU yet..

But did found out, its the one stick which cant run 3-3-7 even @ 184 :(
That should mean its defect, right ?
SPD says 3-3-7 @ PC3000

The other does 185@2-2-6 fine, test for higher... :)
/edit looks like thats it, will run 186 also, but after several memtest86 runs, gave 1 error :(

Test the CPU now, at 2075 no problems, but had to increase VCore a bit.

Looks like the one stick of RAM wont go over 185@2-2-6 cas2 :(

The other wont even run 183@3-3-7 cas 2, so I gues this is a RMA :(

The CPU have been running 2100 but I had to increase the VCore to 1.7.
At the moment running it 11.5x180@2070 @ 2-2-6 Cas 2.. VCore 1.675 @ 42C - 24C Case temp.

The great thing is, I tried my single Corsair PC3000 3-3-6 cas2 and when I passed 202 I didnt want to go higher, since this stick will never go into this board..
But no problem with the board at this FSB.
Dont even have a new NB cooler nor a SB cooler.. :p

Will return with some seti times later.

Ohh, am using the 3/5/2003 bios, and its really nice.
They seem to have solved the problem with currupt bios.
It does a double save or something.. After a bios change, it will flash a red sign: "dont turn of or reset" and then it reboots again.

Wow so at equal speeds Seti love the AMD with higher FSB. Gotta love those numbers! My XP2000@1.64 is running seti in about the same times as that Intel. Long live AMD!!!

PIV 1.6A @ 2.3 ghz is with moderate memory timings, cas2.5. 4:5 ratio. The motherboard is old and needs updated but I have no plans

The XP 1700+ is with memory settings at turbo settings, cas2

I plan on having a floppy setup on a Abit KX7-333 and XP 1700 w/166 fsb soon

:)

Nice WU times for the XP:D ,it matches my XP @2.05GHz almost exactly! ,wierd seeing as you have 7MHz higher FSB & nearly 200MHz higher cpu clock:confused:.Are you running CAS 3-3- etc?

Soni
Nice!:D ,we await your WU times;)
Shame about the RAM:(

Seems no matter what I do on the A7N8X Deluxe I can't go over 12x 175fsb with absolute stability. :|

It really doesn't matter how low I set the multiplier either, or how relaxed the timings. In other words it does 10x 175 just as well as it does 12x 175 but if I raise it to the next higher fsb it goes unstable no matter what the multiplier.

It reaches the same speed with the 1700+ chip as it does with my 2400+, so it's not a cpu limitation.

Now I know I shouldn't be crying about that but seeing you guys with your 180+ fsb's (& some in the 200's) makes me want "more, more, more".;)

I know there are some who get more out of this board, but I'm not willing to put it under the soldering iron

What's the major difference between this mobo and the 8rda+? What are the voltage limitations on the 8rda+?
The limitations on this mobo are 1.85v cpu, 2.8v memory & 1.7v VDD (what's that last one for anyway, seems to be in the AGP part of the bios?)
I know there is a hacked bios that allows greater latitude in the settings, but I tried it and had problems.

Guess I'm just ranting a bit, anybody want to make a suggestion though would be fine.

I mentioned to you earlier that the original bios was the best overclocking one ... did you try it?
