Comparing that to the health issues from eating fatty foods is superfluous at best. If I down 20 big macs and 10 bags of fries, you are not going to catch my 'fat'
however, if you choose not to vaccinate your child against measles, mumps, smallpox, etc, and my child who may not be able to have vaccinations catches a life threatening illness from your child, you better expect some serious repercussions.

Just to be clear all of my kids were fully vaccinated. I am not against vaccines. I just believe in individual rights. When I cut my leg with a chain saw a few years ago I got my tetanus shot.

I do not get a flu vaccine, that is my right and my choice. You want to be protected from the flu go get your vaccine.

Because not all kids are innoculated for every disease at birth? Some can not be for medical reasons. Some are too young etc... for certain vaccines. That's the entire purpose of "herd immunity". Vaccinate as many as you can to reduce the risk of carriers.

You're implying a disease is only cause for concern if a vaccine is available for it. Not only that, but the law should mandate preventative care against this particular short list while ignoring all others. Preventative care that involves spending money.

People who aren't vaccinated are still protected through herd immunity.

Barring that, there's still basic preventative care like washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough.

That's the entire purpose of "herd immunity". Vaccinate as many as you can to reduce the risk of carriers.

I was responding to TH's point regarding "their choice".

If we're talking about a spread-out minority of unvaccinated people amongst a population that has a high enough percentage of vaccinated people, then perhaps. However, stupidity is commonplace, stupid ideas propagate rather quickly, and sometimes people get panicky and do stupid things. It was only in the last few weeks that I heard of a school where something like 25% of the students were off sick due to contracting an illness that vaccines are available for.

There are quite a few people in society who are at much higher risk of serious consequences if they contracted say german measles. There really is no excuse for not vaccinating. I have been on immunosuppressants for a number of years, what should I do, stop going outside because there are some people who are inconsiderate little shits? Are they going to pay my bills?

If you can't be inoculated, that's your problem. You can and will get sick.
