Are you always so dishonest? This isn't about their health care, it's about an extra $7B+ for doing what they already get paid to do. They have health care, great plans I might add. Your appeal to emotion is the misguided opinion.

The union workers must maintain working to keep their plan. If they cant work then its the poor house.

Can you back that up? That first responders to 9/11 are being shoved to the poor house because of the injuries sustained during 9/11. Because this is just about all "union" workers, or about all first responders.

The people who cleaned up are included in this bill. They dont have the emergency worker coverage.

So is it about the first responders, or the clean up crews? Can you make up your mind? And can you still link that he clean up crews are going to the poor house because their employer provided health insurance isn't good enough that we have to give them another $7+B, on top of what they get to do their jobs, and all the charities out there for 9/11 first responders?

Dude if you don't know what the bill is about maybe you shouldn't be arguing about it. This bill includes the cleanup workers and volunteers.

Does it matter? Would you be for one or the other?

Sometimes it's better not to oppose something, even though your political philosophy says you have to, because you end up looking mean and petty and like kind of a tool.

I'm not for giving either $7+B. If the incident is beyond what they feel is their duty was they can take it up though proper channels, taxpayer money to supplement what they already get paid to do the job, and the many targeted charities is not the right way to do it. This is nothing more than a political stunt, and you emo driven progressives are lapping it up for all it's worth. Everyday first responders, and people on the frontlines risk, and give their lives with no expectation above doing their duty.

focus on the extension of current tax rates.

you mean the "tax breaks" for your billionaire buddies, right?

Who cares if the "peasants" get health care... let my billionaire buddy keep his $250,000!!

right? right?

This doesn't surprise me at all. The Republican party has a history of doublespeak like this. They'll invoke 9/11 as much as possible but do nothing to support the heroes of it.

Just look up John McCain's voting record for veterans to see a similar example.

This is absolutely a political stunt. The democrats crafted it in such a way that they knew Republicans would oppose it, and then they could call them on not supporting the nation's heroes.

However, the important part of this bill should still be allowed to pass - the part about the responders' benefits, that is. It sickens me that congress has ended their session because "It's christmas time and we want to spend it with our families." Well, the sooner you pass the bill, the sooner you can go home!

As asked before, can you give a plausible time frame when this bill should have been passed where it would not be called a political stunt? Everyone else has failed so far.

Well our local neocons have shown up in this thread against giving these men and women benefits. This seems to be the republican position on the issue.

Well lets see the people that were 1st responders did so because IT WAS THEIR JOB. They got a paycheck to do it. It is up to the company or authority they worked for to foot the bill. Not the American tax payer. Those that volunteered did so of their own free will.
When will people like you grow up and realize that people make choices and they have to be willing to live with the consiquences.
does it suck that they are sick and broke, sure, but if you haven't noticed, we as a nation are BROKE!!! We can't keep spending money left and right for everything that makes us feel good or patriotic because all it will do is put us in the poor house sooner.
