8GB
Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.

Resident Evil Village 3060TI/3070 tanks at 4K and is slower than the 3060/6700XT when ray tracing:

Company Of Heroes 3060 has a higher minimum than the 3070TI:

10GB / 12GB

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.
  1. It's the player's fault.
  2. It's the reviewer's fault.
  3. It's the developer's fault.
  4. It's AMD's fault.
  5. It's the game's fault.
  6. It's the driver's fault.
  7. It's a system configuration issue.
  8. Wrong settings were tested.
  9. Wrong area was tested.
  10. Wrong games were tested.
  11. 4K is irrelevant.
  12. Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
  13. Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
  14. There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
  15. It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
  16. It's an anomaly.
  17. It's a console port.
  18. It's a conspiracy against NV.
  19. 8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
  20. It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
  21. Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.
According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

Man, you are so funny. Why are you ignoring the fact that 4060 Ti 16GB is doing considerably well compared to 4060 Ti 8GB? That's the point DAPUNISHER was making.

And stop whining about people being rude to you. We have been very patient and very nice to you, considering what you have subjected us to. So shut up and post :p
That was explained months ago. People forget. This thread is unique because the members want it to continue and not be locked up. And because there is only one dissenting opinion, which is highly unusual. As it was explained; it makes it impossible to police fairly. Because by being obstinate and argumentative with everyone else in the face of overwhelming evidence it is basically trolling and painting a huge target on yourself. How can anyone address the trolling without referencing the only person doing it? Or not call a duck a duck, as the expression has it?

How unique is this thread? He just did a moderator callout, which is a cardinal sin around here. It was reported. But I have suggested no action be taken given the unique circumstances. As since the policing cannot be fair due to the extenuating circumstances, there should be some leeway both directions. Other mods will have to make the final call on that.

The rest of us are simply using it as a repository for cataloging titles that are vram heavy and exposing 8GB cards. And to callout Nvidia for selling overpriced under populated cards. But the ghost insists on haunting us for doing it. That's fine. However, don't get butthurt and whinge when there is blowback. Particularly given he can tapout anytime.

Sir, you are doing the same thing again. You are showing results that are homicated and fabrisexual from the testers, in order to make the 8GB framebuffer to fail.

Max settings at the three primarily used resolutions has been the standard way of benchmarking GPUs and measuring their performance for over two decades now.

There are certainly other ways to measure performance, but calling those charts a deliberate effort to make certain cards look bad is pure nonsense.

It's trolling plain and simple. It's only that I think he believes it, that I never hit him for it. It isn't really trolling if you think it's true. Just willful ignorance living in a reality distortion field.

Eh, this thread provides good cheap entertainment.
Consider the opposing viewpoint.

Just imagine what this thread seems like from the other side. One valiant defender holding the line against a mob of ignorant, resistant to education, barbarians. Have some pity folks. :)

I don't even think it's trolling Usually trolls just want to ruffle feathers and make people mad and will leave if they don't get the reaction that they want.

This thread has been far more civil than a lot of other threads I've been in recently, particularly those in the CPU forum. Sure there are some jabs thrown here, but it doesn't have anywhere near the bitterness seen in other threads where people are earning themselves infractions.

I'm sure we've all been there at some point or another or perhaps someday will be.

Now if this thread is still around and active eight years from now when everyone else has moved on and started talking about how 16 GB is no longer enough for some of the newest titles coming out, then I think it may be necessary to reevaluate those sentiments.

Don't worry, the forums probably wont even be here in one year.

Friendly wager on that? Since your prediction is the safer bet with the site closing, I can haz odds too?

That's the definition of low effort trolling in my moderation handbook. Elaborate trolling has not limits on effort and persistence. I do agree ghost is debating in good faith though, and believes everything he is, wait for it...... ghost writing. 🤣 It's crazy the mental gymnastics some will perform to avoid being wrong.

Apologies, if someone already posted this, but I just saw this

BMW, despite all those muddy textures, with DLSS & FG being enabled, still the 8gb 4060 ti has poor 1% lows compared to 16gb card

& this is an nvidia Sponsored game

A really special card this 4060 ti 8gb

View attachment 106533
Thinking again of this disaster for nvidia sponsored crippleware on 8gb vram cards: nvidia should have launched all cards one tier lower

8gb 4060 as 4050 ti = $280
8gb/16gb 4060 ti as 4060 = $350, $400
12gb 4070 gddr6 as 4060 ti = $450
12gb 4070 super as 4070 = $550
16gb 4070 ti super as 4070 ti = $700
16gb 4080 super as 4080 = $850
24gb 4090 as 4080 ti = $1200+

I am thinking they will hopefully fix this line-up with the 50x0 series 🙏

I wasn't serious about a year. I think there is too much value. I could see them going by two years though. Eight years? Certainly long gone. Maybe 4/1 they are gone within a year and even money 2/1 by two.

Don't worry, the forums probably wont even be here in one year.

The forums will stick around as long as the users do and I have little interest in relocating.

Perhaps one day Anand will retire from Apple (or whatever else he's doing at the time) and take up the mantle once again. I'll be here for it.

That's the definition of low effort trolling in my moderation handbook.

Sure, but I don't think this specific thread is worth a high effort amount of trolling. I'll fully admit to being the callous sort to lob a metaphorical hand grenade into a thread before, but no one puts this much effort into a troll for so little return on their investment.

Maybe we've stumbled into something akin to Poe's law where just like satire and extreme beliefs become blurred together, the same can be said for trolling. It may look like it, but I don't think it is. History is full of people who have gone to the stakes for what might seem like silly beliefs to others.

I just chalk it all up to usual tech forum weirdness. I doubt you think SMT4 is a troll if you catch my drift. No one is here by force and Internet bickering invariably had to occur somewhere. Maybe we're all unwitting participants in a future legend. The fates have woven stranger threads.

Hello everyone, lets keep the unnecessary politics out of the tech forums. If directly related to a tech company or product, that is one thing and can be ok depending on the situation, but political quips and jokes are not. Thanks! -AT Mod Shmee

I predict a forum upgrade is in the works in the not too distant future that will introduce ads. Lots and lots of ads. Unless the forum bills are considered chump change by the parent company.
What are the forum bills? How much would hosting these pages and associated traffic cost? What are the other costs? Really curious.

I think the technical staff associated with maintaining Future plc sites will have to allocate a portion of their time to AT forums. That's time taken away from their more profitable sites so there might be an impact in terms of cost. If all their different site forums are running in VMs on some cluster, that may not be as bad as having to maintain separate server cluster for AT forums. Bandwidth costs should be the least of their worries since it's supposed to be pretty cheap.

Now we are off topic but that's OK this thread has long been a joke. I think what'll happen is eventually Future tells us jo join Tom's forums or too bad. That would really suck since the people here are generally far more tech knowledable IMHO. I'm pretty sure there was once an AT millionaires club thread. Someone should revive it and ask for donations!
