<--- Canadian and has done work in mental health hospital

Again, how was what I said not on topic?

Tragic event > apparent underlying medical issues not addressed because of medical system > thinking about possible solutions.

Please explain how any of that is not on topic.

Doesn't matter what system you go with, you'll never get all of them. Bottom line, we don't watch people 100% of the time. That is just not gonna happen because you lose your freedom that way. So this happens occasionally.

I'm assuming that is sarcasm, but, background check is sorta done, waiting period would not make sense, and permit is done through having a licence to drive.

Question. Which is worse, killing 10 people with a van or 10 with a gun? The answer would be that there is no difference and therein lies a problem. While autos are harder to carry around and conceal they make excellent substitutes for inflicting massive casualties. This is not an argument against reasonable regulation as seen by the majority who understand enough to give educated input, but if this had been a gun we would have been inundated with outrage not because of death and suffering, but because of the means. In our society, it is far less of a wrong to kill someone over, many "someones" by van to use a gun.

Again I'm not arguing against regulations but the value of lives being weighed by the means used to intentionally end them.

The only remedy is to have a far far better understanding of mental illness and when it is and when it is not relevant to an individual being "safe" in society. Then we need to spend the requisite time and funds to address these problems.

Answer my question. What about my comment was not on topic? So far you have talked about spending, how you have experience in their system, that all systems have gaps. None of what you have said explains how my comment is not on topic.

We have people saying that officials are unofficially saying it looks like mental health. So, if that is true, what if anything can be done.

Therein lies the apparent problem. Cars are so important to our current society that I see no real way of protecting people from this. In the future we can have technology in cars, but not right now. So, the only real thing we seem to be able to look at is mental health, but apparently that is not on topic.

Whether it is on topic depends on if one wished to deal at the superficial level or the basis that ties most of these things together. I'm a "root cause" kind of guy.

Can't be the underlying cause, he has worked in Mental Health in Canada so reasons...

point being too early. and even if it is mental health, and even if mental health spending is quadrupled, this may still have happened. Just too many ifs at the moment.

I hand to look that one up. Good grief that is just pathetic, how long before underoos gets himself some time on the news?

Sadly, it feels like it could be just a matter of time with him. I keep wondering about Blue_Max, too, since his vitriolic hatred and fear always made it seem like he was a heartbeat away from resorting to violence.

I wonder if that famous U of T professor Jordan Peterson has anything intelligent to say about this attack...isn't he some poster child of the alt-right or something? I would bet five toonies that the perp attended one of Peterson's lectures.

Barely a mention of the incident on his Twitter feed...hmmm...

That's true, this may have happened. If every gun was banned it may have happened. If cars couldn't be used, then it still could have happened. Motive is the thing. Sex, money or revenge are the "sane" motivators, but even then the perception around those could be from mental instability.

In the end, if someone who is capable, intelligent and willing to sacrifice to achieve a killing will almost certainly do so. What needs to be addressed are hard problems to be avoided at all costs. Lip service sure, but no march to DC for them.

Ho Lee Fuk. Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. I thought this was exclusively an alt-right phenomenon, but apparently leftist socialism and misogyny/incels have their own intersection, and it isn't pretty. State-distributed girlfriends? Tell me socialists, is this a real thing? That kinda bat shit will turn me libertarian. Fack.

A general feeling of impotence is probably very high up on the list of why there are mass killings be it with vehicle, gun, bomb, or otherwise.

They want to leave their mark.
