If you go to FAHControl configure/remote access on your linux box:

    IP access restriction;

    allow:127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255
    deny:0.0.0.0/0

    AND

    Passwordless IP access restriction;

    allow:127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.255
    deny:0.0.0.0/0

The big buttons down the left side: The top big button (ubuntu logo) is the one you need to click on. That's called Dash home. click once on that icon and you will see a search box. You will also see more icons at the bottom of the window. Click on the one that has a ruler/pen and apps will appear (some of them). In the middle, there will be installed apps with a few choices. Click on "83 more" and you will see all the apps.

OK< thanks, but I can't put the directory in (must be a different directory than under Windows) and it doesn't see it. Also, I tried installing the video drivers, and it says it failed due to characters in the script or something. And last, ubunto has been upgrafing to 12.0.4 for 5 hours, doing an unpack for all that time.

So thansk for the help progress is coming slowly. So far 25k ppd is all that my $2000 investment has got me. :(

Don't get discouraged yet. We're just getting going here. With linux, SMP ppd suffers badly when you have non-FAH processor activity. Even the process of upgrading to 12.04 will kill your ppd (HDD activity and non-FAH cpu cycles). On 8056 WUs, my best TPF is 50 seconds on my 3930K box running windows 8 (33721 ppd). On that same machine running ubuntu 12.04, my TPF goes down to 44 sec on 8056 WUs and the ppd goes up to ~41000 ppd. If I start cruising the net on ubuntu, my ppd suffers significantly.

Once your upgrade is complete and you get a baseline of ppd, there is a bios setting that others say increases the ppd on G34 2P, 4P systems. Once you're in the bios, look for "node interleaving" in the memory settings. Try disabling that. I've read this alone can increase your ppd by as much as 20%.

Also, I posted in your thread in the folding forum asking whether you need to run the linux v6 client to get bigadv WUs. I know you can setup bigadv in the v7 client but who knows if you'll actually get bigadv WUs.

Hi Petrusbroder, I have switched some CPU cores (8) into the PG Solstice challenge. I was trying to leave the CPU cores, and switch GPUs to PG, but it didn't seem to be working. I might still do this later tonight when I get home if I can figure it out, in which case, I will put the 8 cpu cores back into F@H. Also, thanks for all your hard work organizing and keeping us updated with the stats.

OK, the 12.0.4 upgrade failed, it said somethig in another window that I didn't understand and when I closed that window, the upgrade failed. Now I can't figure out how to restart the upgrade, and when I open the upgrade manager, nothing happens. nd the video card driver install failed, something about invalid characters.

Ubuntu hates me. And since no apps would work, I rebooted, but I just get the keyboard flashing 2 lights. So now I am re-installing from scratch, except I have a bunch of other drives, and partitions, and it apparently locked up, trying to decide what to do with the boot loader.

OK, on the 3rd re-install, this time after wiping the old install. So lost all my updates, and folding updates. But this time I will be at 12.0.4

Back up, verified nvidia drivers, bios has node interleaving off by defailt, and running a 8068 at 46 secs for 32k ppd. Yes, I tried to configure it for bigadv, thats why I bought this entire server !! pissed off that I can't get it to run, but I did under XP64, just low ppd, wouldn't make the timeline.

Here are the Tuesday's stats, the last stats before the PG-race.

Here is a graph of the TeAm's production. It seems that the race has stabilised ... but I assume the production will drop somewhat during the PG-race.

Still: it is a nice graph!

OK, I got a 8101, and while the calculator from HFM for ppd says it must be 34 minutes to get the bonus, the fahclient says 39 minutes per frame, and 70k ppd and 190k total.

    What do you think ?

I don't know. Do you believe FAH or HFM? Flip a coin?

I'm proud to announce I have finally solved this problem. Never did figure out what was causing it, but after googling it forever and trying numerous things that didn't work, I deleted my old install completely, reinstalled it and reconfigured and now it's working again.

Too bad I didn't think of that three days ago.

Well, if I could get HFM to talk to it, we would know. I think I need to specity a directory, like I did for my Oracle VM client, and I already setup the other things you told me about, and now it say 26 minutes per frame !!!

Thanks for the stats! I've been AWOL for much of this race, but the compy continues to chug away. Unfortunately the F@H client seems to freeze up about every 3rd day.

    26 minutes per frame!

According to this bonus points calculator: http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php

For project 8101, you need a TPF of 34 minutes or lower to get the bonus. A TPF of 26 minutes will yield:

    Base Points 22607
    Bonus Points 213964.71
    Total Points 236571.71
    PPD 131024.33

I wonder why the TPF went down to 26 minutes? If you check the FAH log file, is there a line where it says turning on dynamic load balancing or something like that?

As for monitoring with HFM with the v7 client, there's no option of sharing a folder. You'd have to switch to the v6 client. Do you have the right IP address for your ubuntu box? Open up a terminal window (ctrl + alt+ T) and enter the command ifconfig. Your ip address will be there. Could also be a firewall issue.

My production seems to have plummeted. Down to only 2-3 systems. Someone want to order a cluster so I can test it? :p

OK. 34% done in 17-18 hours. If I could get HFM to work, I would see the log file ! So it may just make it, we should know tomorrow night, and 230k points later (or 20k)

ON HFM, yes I did ifconfig, and other machines can ping that IP, I have no idea why its not working.

    Here are today's stats:

Please remember, that I will balance the teams just before the end of the PrimeGrid Race for the final race. I will also add The_LAWNoob to the stats as soon as he has uploaded WUs and thus numbers ...
