Did anyone notice how the team just hung out in the dugout?

When did he cheat?

BTW, lots of his teammates came out and congratulated him.

You don't seem to argue steroids, but you pick cheater?

It just goes to show that in America, even useless @holes who cheat the game of baseball can accomplish something.

I'm about 100% sure that he did steroids.

I'm about 100% sure that he was not the only one on steroids.

Steroids was not cheating in baseball for years. It was illegal in the US but there were no rules against in Major League Baseball.

If you want to put an asterisk next to Barry Bonds and his record, you need to put on next to a litany of other players from the same era including Roger Clemens and his 350+ wins, Sammy Sosa and his 600+ home runs, Jason Giambi and his 2000 MVP, etc etc etc..

Just because the guy is a jerk doesn't mean that what he accomplished is not impressive.

I'm not a Barry Bonds apologist, btw.

BTW, I was talking about baseball.. not his personal life.. He definitely cheated on his wife. :D

How many of the pitchers that he faced were up to the same thing that he was?

There's no way to know.

That means nothing. As a direct result of his cheating he holds this record.

Using steroids was not against the rules of MLB and he has never been caught or suspended for using performance enhancing drugs.

Cheating from an ethical and legal standpoint are two different things. Sure, he may not have broken any rules at the time, but we all know he knew what he was getting into.

I don't disagree with that.

Most players will say that almost everyone is on them. People here love to villify Bonds, but he's doing nothing that most ballplayers aren't doing. I agree the record means little due to it though, also due to the fact home runs don't necessarily win ball games.

The problem with Bonds is that not only is he a cheater, but he is a pompous prick that has made no attempt to show any sense of humility. He has treated the media like garbage for decades, and has a really nasty chip on his shoulder.

Why does it need to be against the rules of MLB if he's breaking the law? If he attacked an opposing pitcher with a lead pipe (outside of a game) so he'd face an easier pitcher in the next game, that wouldn't be against the rules of MLB, but I'd still consider him a cheater for doing it.

What? Everyone knew he would do it. It doesn't make him less of a cheater and it doesn't make him less of an asshole. So where does the HaHa come into play? It's not like we were betting he couldn't do it or anything.

Personally I was hoping he would do it in LA. I wanted to hear the boos... there were boos in SD but the fans there are too polite to do it LA style.

And yet no one cares that Neifi Perez was just suspended for 80 games for testing positive for stimulants a 3rd time. Barry Bonds is the Sony and Walmart of baseball. Everyone loves to hate him.
