Ahh, Colt doesn't even produce a flawless "out-of-the-box" gun. A friend of mine is a former Marine (from 1962 - 1970), the first handgun he ever shot was a 1911 and he's preferred them ever since.
Your friend is lucky, he got a good one (they do exist I'm sure). I've just shot a few and seen the reviews and so on, lousy guns on average.Guess what his favorite is? A worked-over Llama, he swears by it. A qualified gun-smith who has enough expertise in 1911's can do wonders.
Yea, that is one thing to be said for revolvers, it somehow doesn't go bang, pull the trigger again.Don't have to worry about ammunition selection, it shoots everything just as well. Capacity is a concern, but only police are likely to get into shoot-outs. The typical civilian defense scenario is not a prolonged exchange of gun fire.
