However, there are several counties in central TX that use 3com gear for their VoIP stuff, and to my knowledge they haven't had any problems with it. I'm not endorsing 3com, just thought I'd throw that bit of knowledge out there. I know nothing about the planning that went into the network, only that the network administrator had tons of prior experience with 3com, and she liked them, and the decision was hers to make. Regardless of it being a wise decision or not, they haven't had any problems that I'm aware of.

On another note, I was saddened recently to hear that 3com is acquiring TippingPoint, who has a damn fine intrusion prevention product by the way...probably one of the top three in the market. Stupid Cisco...if they'd acquired them, they'd be positioned well in that market against Juniper, ISS and the other big players. TP's product will go to crap under 3com's leadership, I'd bet money on it.

Huawei is making all the 3Com products that 3Com sells now becuz of the JV. Huawei is have a 50%+ YOY growth rate selling these same products. TippingP management is still intact after the merger. i am pretty sure Huawei will be manufacturing & selling products with the TippingP technology.

good luck with that then. I hope you do a better job of selling 3com elsewhere than you did here.

Can Cisco Settle For Less Than Sizzling?

Heh, we can throw numbers around all day if you want. I could quote that Cisco's Home-networking division saw a 93% increase in sales, doubling its second quarter profits from $724million last year to a current $1.4billion, but those are just numbers. link

I think there was wisdom to be found in the words of some of the people that warned you. Honestly, and in general, people speak their minds on here for the sake of giving good advice and helping those in need of information. We legitimately saw a problem in 3com for their past failures.

In the enterprise, a hiccup is unexcusable, much less a total abandoment of clientel. 3com did this, which is why they will have to work very hard to demonstrate that they are trustworthy. You simply to not let such a transgression go and then spend $300,000 with them and hope for the best. That is your organizations money. They pay for your ability to find and balance the most trustworthy and cost-effective solution for them. Based on what I've come to learn about the people on these boards, ignoring them was a big mistake.

People warned you not to spend your organizations reputation with 3com, and you ignored us. Fortunately we will not do the same and ignore you.

That said, we warned you.

The money you save in the long run by going with higher-quality equiptment is worth it. I've learned the hard way. Don't make the mistake millions of others have.

have you test or used 3Com new products lately. We are currently testing the TippingPoint UnityOne. Do know you know anything about it? maybe do a google search!

cisco and 3com products are the same, but huge price differences
