Bob Sutton did make adjustments, the personnel just didn't have the talents to make up for it. Yeah, and CBs is a concern.

They have more than one player that can replace DMC.

Don't know if you watched tonight's preseason game, but man, that O-line was scary.

He didn't in several of the earlier games (the Broncos games come to mind). Overall he effectively tried putting out the same defense the whole year and it showed when they stopped playing backups and faced legitimate QBs.

Its preseason I don't read anything into preseason. I have no doubt their line sucks bad though, that's what happens when you let 2/5s of it walk and don't really do anything to shore up the losses.

DMC was overrated dogshit. It shouldn't take much to replace him. I'm just glad that Reid was willing to drop McCluster like nothing after all the gushing he did about him last year. Thomas is going to fit the same role McCluster had.

Kelce needs first team snaps.

So... looks like the Kansas City Eagles are shaping up to be a fairly decent team on paper.

Anyone notice how Andy Reid has basically brought in skill position players to put together an identical team to what he had in Philly, position for position? (assuming they weren't already in place)

I'm pretty sure that was the entire point of hiring him, he, or more rather how he builds a team, is a known commodity. I'm still not sure what to make of him (I know he makes some total bonehead decisions), but we'll see if he can find a great QB as that's what wins championships (almost always has and the modern NFL its even more important).

When you don't have a pass rush because of injuries, or just about when the San Diego game came around, that's when the secondary got exposed. Sutton moved people around, but they just sucked, coupled with the lack of pass rush is what killed them. Injuries.

Reid has a (soon to be) great QB in Alex Smith that he can win Super Bowls with. I have no doubt that if the circumstances were different, 49ers would have at least a 6th SB trophy by now. Now, we can argue about Smith's merits, but I really don't want to because you either hate him, or you like him. Much has already been said.

Not sure what to think of the game last night. Redskins had to conduct a sweep run or rollout every play as the browns went straight up the middle every snap. And the browns on offense couldn't catch a ball to save a life.

I think Smith is a good QB that was in a bad system for a long time. I think there are lots of decent QBs out there that coach's try and get them to fit their system, not build the system around the QB and their strength's.

Brees was allowed to leave SD due to being to short and not much chance of being great. Brett Farve threw 4 pass's for Atlanta with 2 of them interceptions and was dropped by Atlanta. etc...

You misspelled Kaepernick. Nobody gives a shit about Smith. Chiefs will miss the playoffs this year since they don't have a cakewalk schedule, but it won't be Smith's fault.

Get off Kaepernick's nuts already, he's nothing special, not anymore than other ”running qb”. At least we know for a fact why the 49ers don't have a 6th
SB trophy, and it's not because of Alex.

It's kinda funny that the entire AFC West had the same schedule last year, but yet only the Chiefs had cupcake lineup. Smith is no stranger to the NFC West, you're acting as if he just got drafted. We shall see how the games are played out come the season.

I'm predicting the Chiefs will take the division this year.

Didn't say anything about Kaep being good or bad, just that he is the actual guy people either love or hate.

Your comments about the cupcake lineup make me question whether or not you actually understand how the schedule is formulated. I mean, I know you know, but your comment isn't something that a person who knows would say.

Finally, your comment about the Chiefs taking the division is cray-cray. Unless you know for a fact that the Broncos are going to suffer multiple devastating injuries. :hmm:

I remember when two teams from that division were undefeated (and even after one lost to the Colts) and we had certain posters in here claiming Denver was obviously better because KC had a weak schedule and that propped them up. Despite, the fact they played the exact same teams...

I'm not disputing their easy schedule last year, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy that most people conveniently used when taking about the Chiefs last year. They tend to forget that SD and Denver played virtually the same teams.

As for beating out Denver, I don't think it's as impossible as some people think, I mean, 43 - 8.

In their second game last year, it was a very quiet first half because people were thinking about how the Chiefs could be leading by two TDs, and that was without their pass rush. People were acting as if Denver blew the Chiefs out off the water or something, they were never out of it, not by much.

Anyways, we shall see.

It's far from cray-cray to say they will take the division, it's certainly possible. Yeah, I'd favor Denver for sure, but I wouldn't dismiss the Chiefs at all.

Barring significant injury trouble, Denver is going to Waltz to the division title and into the playoffs. I'd easily rank them as top seed in the AFC this year.

Agreed. KC lost half its starting OL too.

KC really only has to beat Denver to win the division though. I give Denver the edge in winning the division, but KC isn't completely out of it. Denver did well, but they also had a once in a lifetime performance by PM all season. There are games they wouldn't have won, had he performed average (even his average); the Dallas game, for instance. I feel they have overcome some of those issues in the off season, but that doesn't make them unbeatable.

Damn, they really have some good weeds in Denver, apparently going 19 - 0 is the rage this year.

I don't see Denver getting an undefeated season unless the NFC West gets knocked out on some fluke. Even with the tougher enforcement of mauling receivers, Seattle still has large, athletic DBs who aren't slow. And last year, the 49ers would have beaten Denver as just as bad as the Seahawks IMO. And that isn't even taking any other teams into account.

I'll root for Pittsburgh again but really... I'll just be happy if the "Notbroncos" win it all 😛

Maybe the "Not9ers" too lol.

I'd prefer if the Cowboys win the Superbowl, but I am realistic. And, I still haven't forgiven the 49ers for 'the Catch'.

Total agreement. if Joe Montana, and Steve Young hadn't both had their careers cut short, they would have a long time ago.

Right, you're that dude that I thought I'd never want to engage in a football conversation with again from last season. Thanks for the reminder.

This game is like a microcosm for the Chiefs franchise, watching Matt f'ing Cassel outplay Alex Smith. D:

Cassel is sure is trying to compete to see who can be worse though.

Nah, some team will pick him up next year, which is presuming the Rams even cut him. His contract was restructured in 2012 and so he has no guaranteed money due. No way he's gonna get a big money payday but if the Niners just paid Gabbert a million and change, you can be damn sure that someone will pay Bradford something just as a lottery ticket.

What you guys think of my draft this year?

I was the 11th pick out of 12. Sucks, I really wanted a top 5 skill player first and qb later.. like Cam or Nick Foles or something. Manning was 15th rank in my league, but i think it was smart to pick him up when I had the chance to with my first pick.

Round Pick Player Position
1. (11) Peyton Manning QB
2. (14) DeMarco Murray RB
3. (35) Andre Johnson WR
4. (38) C.J. Spiller RB
5. (59) Julian Edelman WR
6. (62) Jeremy Maclin WR
7. (83) Dennis Pitta TE
8. (86) Sammy Watkins WR
9. (107) Shane Vereen RB
10. (110) Kelvin Benjamin WR
11. (131) Charles Clay TE
12. (134) Andre Williams RB
13. (155) Chicago DEF
14. (158) Carson Palmer QB
15. (179) Robbie Gould K
