This is correct. I turned mine off when I lived there because they abused the system and I don't need to be woken up at 2 in the morning for something that happened miles away and doesn't involve me at all.
I seem to recall the town of Enumclaw, WA had similar concerns about lahar warning sirens, the initial test failed and people were complaining. Lahars are mudflows caused by giant mud slides, and or volcano eruptions. The town is in that path from Mt. Ranier.

As far as you are concerned that may be true. But not for me.

The Constitution's still there. When it has been officially discarded null and void, it will be naught but history. But right now, it's still there. Trump swore to abide by it, defend it. He's disgraced himself as have those who haven't resisted him and deplored his disregard for his duties as president and his endless self-aggrandizement.

Here's a great comment I just read to Jeff Flake's newly published opinion piece at The New York Times:

Robert Porter

Robert Porter
PhiladelphiaJuly 6
As an ex-senator, Mr Flake is in an excellent position to answer a very non-rhetorical question I've had since Jan 20. What exactly is so wonderful about being a senator that is worth giving up your soul for? We see deficit hawks embracing the budget busting bill, we see Ukraine supporters switching sides to kowtow to Russia, we see senators gleefully gutting medical care for their constituents, we see people allegedly of faith endorsing the most gratuitous cruelty, avarice and corruption, and we see people sworn to uphold the Constitution trample it in the dirt. They all could halt this with a WORD, but fear for their job. I've never had a job worth my honor and character. So what is it about being a senator that is? Seriously, Mr Flake.
So it's some symbolic bullshit that's not followed. Whenever this regime gets toppled there is no way we can go back to the shitty constitution that led us to where we're at now.

I won't argue with that, but replacing the Constitution with another seems monumentally difficult without a meltdown of major proportions followed by a constitutional convention. How could a CC develop and produce something solid and workable going forward? Given the chaos and utter lack of character we're seeing from most of the gamut of politicians in office now, it looks impossible. But those people would likely be out of power by that time, so who knows what could happen? Maybe people with brains and integrity will step up. It takes more than a few people like that to form a government. Right now, it doesn't look like we have what it takes.

I just watched the video embedded in the OP. Didn't shock me. What's more amazing is to go to Youtube and read the comments. Sabine has 1.7M subscribers. The comments are amazing.

Here's a sample comment:

I liked this video because I live in Las Vegas Nevada and on July third last summer in the middle of a heat wave that saw the all time record high jump by seven degrees my electric car's battery controller decided it could no longer charge the battery I found it cheaper to drastically down grade my vehicle than repair my car. This cost thousands. Also this qualifies as by far the hardest summer of my entire life as far as surviving the heat, and I've been here for decades.

I'm sure you can imagine what things would look like, eg French Revolution

They will say then that the olde oil car will be a far better option.

That revolution was about the time of the one here in late 18th century. Muskets. Things were so much simpler then. I think the next 50 years are gonna be real weird on planet earth. Maybe what's here then will have been unimaginable now. The pace of change continues to accelerate. We're clearly headed for disaster with the GWC and our inability to deal with it.

I think "unwillingness" is more fitting than "inability".

Some people on social media have pointed out that Texas officials are huge fans of "blue alerts", dramatically overuse them, and likely leads to people turning off cellular alerts.

From reading the NOAA/NWS accounts, it does seem like the local people are trying to pass the buck for their slow response:

This is correct. I turned mine off when I lived there because they abused the system and I don't need to be woken up at 2 in the morning for something that happened miles away and doesn't involve me at all.
Fucking blue alerts all night for a guy hundreds of miles away around the Dallas area. Got one on my phone then two on my TV tonight. Yeah no IDGAF, especially when it was a guy firing on ICE brownshirts.

Greg Abbott spewed some shit about football and winners and losers.
Someone needs to stuff this asshole in box.

Greg Abbott Was Asked Who's To Blame For The Texas Floods, And His Response Is Going Viral For Being "Tone-Deaf" And "Insane"

"Abbott: You ask, I'm going to use your words: Who's to blame? Know this. That's the word choice of losers. Let me explain one thing about Texas. Every square inch of our state cares about football. Every football team makes mistakes. The losing teams are the ones who try to point out who is to blame. The championship teams are the ones who say don’t worry about it, we got this"

That's word salad, in the style of the syphilitic orange menace.

Get a load of these fucking losers, eh?

"Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) blamed President Barrack Obama’s failure to enforce the law on creating a massive humanitarian crisis on the Texas border."

Damn, they don't have term limits for govna and lieutenant govna in the sprawl known as texass. So stupid it boggles the mind. Trump will want to eliminate them for POTUS, at least where he's concerned but I don't think he can. It might get weird (uh, even weirder) in 2028.

JFC Texas is sending out that same bullshit Blue Alert again today
A child received a free school meal from Democratic policy and now ICE is being directed by Gov Hot Wheels to raid the school for anyone who isn't white?!?

(A quick google says it's to alert the public of someone who has injured/killed a police officer)

We have an entire rainbow of alerts, there seems to be a color for everything. So many that there is basically one always ongoing. That is why practically everyone has them turned off on their phones. They also litter our road signage, as the signs that would normally tell you traffic info instead tell you to look out for an old person in a grey Ford Bronco some 450 miles away.

There's a new Ars article about the southwestern drought with a quote that reminded me of this thread.

The Southwest drought may have nothing to do with it.
As the record shows several multi-century mega droughts in the past....
AND, the 19th - 20th century was the wettest on record. Suggesting that drought is a return to normal for that region.

Human populations there be f'ed.
