Society is an endless downward spiral of ending social taboos?

(But of course WE CAN'T put the Ten Commandments on court room walls; that's just SO bad for people!)

We live in a society where you almost never see children out running, playing ball or tag, riding their bikes, indeed, you almost never even see children walking to and from school as their parents are so afraid of sexual predators.Everywhere you turn in the papers,on tv there's warnings about this molester or that molester, why then is clothing made for adult women being marketed to little girls?
While I agree with your overall sentiment.. .Where the hell do you live?! :Q

Because the kids have more power than the parents do now!

Do you realize that all a kid has to do is make a claim that they are being abused in some way, and the state will make their parents lives a living hell, if not take them away???

Society is fubar'd and it doesnt seem like anyone wants to fix it. Lets just keep passing laws to keep god out of schools, keep taking away parent's control over their children's lives, and let the kids do whatever they want.

Boston,a place where children are escorted to and fro school,a place where their activities are always adult supervised and scheduled. You seldom see elementary school aged children by themselves anywhere.

When I was a kid summer meant freedom, being able to take off on my bike for the day, hang out at the park or the lake with other kids,go to the library whatever.I had a damn childhood.

I don't see a problem with the shirts/blouses.

The skirts have to go though.

i wonderd this myself. We demonize child predators yet let them dress like lillte prostitutes? take that picture OP linked to. the main girl in white is wearing shorts soo low if they droped onother inch you would see her privates. Not to mention she has on a top that would look fine on a women standing on the corner waiting for a john.

I think you are unnecessarily demonizing sexy clothes. That top would also look fine on a woman who's out shopping, or out having a good time at a club, or out seeing a movie, or out at a restaurant, or just doing whatever. Just because some clothing item is somewhat revealing doesn't mean that it's only meant for prostitutes. So do you want women to start wearing burqas?

It is like I have been saying for over 13 years now:

They always come out with the good toys, after you are too old to play with them.

That's really sad. :(

I am glad it isn't that way here. At least not that extreme. Yet.

you are right.

I go to the local college for a class. I am amazed at what some women wear and i love it! Im soo glad my glasses get dark real easy. :D

But to see such outfits on 9-13yr old girls is wrong. I just feel they are trying to tramp it up and they dont really understand why. they just see older girls such as Britney spears, agliruarea (whatever it is) on MTV wearing them and want to copy it and the parents let them. To me they look like underage hookers.

sigh maybe im just old or its the fact i have a daughter that makes me think this way.

That's one of the reasons why I'd never try to raise a family in the city. Back home we don't have to worry about that crap. The only problem is, the ghettoness of DC is slowly moving farther south, year by year. 40 years ago, my grandparents lived in DC. It got ghettofied. 20 years ago, my grandparents moved to PG County. It got ghettofied. Now I see it happening to my own town back home...we just gotta keep moving south.

In one of the associated pictures Jennifer Garner is dressed more conservatively and yet she does have a body that would 'work' with that clothing.

Also the Spears kid seems to be dressed somewhat 'normal' it is just all of her friends look like 12 year old whores.

They only want to fit in with the 'target demographic'. Whatever that means. Check out what's in our magazines, TV, and movies. The marketing, advertising, and product placement.

Parents are not the only one to blame. Just look at TV alone, for example. I remember back when sitcoms were popular among kids: ie Growing Pains, Family Ties, The Cosby Show, and etc. Now, "reality" tv shows rule the airwave. Popular sitcoms still exist with shows like Friends, Sienfeld, Sex and the City. IIRC, the older sitcoms are relatively more conservative. They use to have a moral or lesson at the end of each episode. Name any "reality" tv show that teaches us anything or has any redeeming value. Look at the people that are typically chosen for these "reality" show and how they are dressed. Compare the views about sex, old vs new sitcoms. Casual sex is generally accepted or even encouraged in the newer sitcoms. The marketing giants embrace the message that sex sells and took it to a whole new level. This message in turn is embraced by our youngsters. Kids don't know how to(or want to) be kids anymore. They want to emulate the adults they see on TV whether we like it or not.
