Dudes... Last week i dropped off my 11 and 8 year old girls at their elementary school. The oldest kids in the school are in the 6th grade. All I can say is, when I was in the 6th grade, I do NOT remember the girls having fully develped boobs or wearing clothes like in the OP. I was just shocked, i mean stop in my tracks shocked.

when i was in school girls didnt start to look like that until 9th or 10th grade.

good points made in this thread.

yeah, if i had a daughter that age, i wouldnt let her wear clothes like that.

im sure the 13 yr old boys dont mind. i wouldnt have at that age.

and the ones condoning this type of dress for girls that young probably arent much older than that or if they are, they still have the same mentality as a 13 yr boy.

no, you aren't getting old. The stigma for prostituting children is slowly withering away. Soon it will be okay for child porn. I'm serious - its already pretty close, and in someways children are already the prostitutes for the major industries.

yeah soon you will see naked/sexual scenes with 14-16 year olds in movies.

It has already happened (see Knightley, Keira)

I think its pretty obvious that BAD parents allow that. Plain and simple.
I ahve a 1yr old girl right now (and 3yr old boy too). I only pray that fashion (and morals for that matter) come back full circle as she gets older.

Regardless, she will NOT be wearing such crap, and if I see her wearing it, she simply wont be allowed outside. :)

You are 100% correct. Shopping for school clothes for my girls is a fricken pain in the ass. The only clothes that are on the racks are what my wife and I call, "whore clothes". They are NASTY, they are made to look slutty and worn out. To find decent clothes we have to go to many different stores and dig deep in the racks to find them.

That's my thoughts exactly. Jamie Lynn Spears is ok there, but that girl in white next to her... what's up with her parents ? Too busy out shopping ?

It's always happened. Check out Blue Lagoon from the early 80's with Brooke Shields.

Definitely. My fiancee doesn't want to wear "old lady" clothes seeing as she isn't even 25, but most of the clothes available in the mass-market are way too slutty for her to wear to work. She's only 5'5" and most of the skirts she looks at barely cover half her thigh. I don't mind so much ;) but she would get fired if she went to work wearing those.

Well britney's sister is a twat anyway. Thinks she's some 25 year old star already. I think that the fame of her sister has seriously gotten to her head.

Eitherway I sure won't be having any of that nonsense, and no good parent would IMO. These are a pedophile's wet dream.

Yep, exactly. the sick thing is that stores are specificaly targeting young girls in that way. Honestly, times are changing. i walk in the mall and see 12, 13 y/o's with halter tops and make-up on. i am short too, so its hard to find clothes for 20somethings that are not strippers or hors that have real jobs!

As a parent of teenagers, I didn't even see what the problem was with the picture until you-all pointed it out. I'm so used to seeing the little darlings it doesn't look wierd any more.

When I was in school we wore uniforms, which meant that once we got away from school we went nuts in the other direction. In fact, I think school uniforms from the 50's were largely responsible for the social upheaval of the 60's :D .

So, logically, when these little ones get a little older, they're going to start wearing shapeless uniforms in order to shock . . .

So, it seems the consensus is that those parents are to blame. But really, how are the parents going to fight a media that makes it all look so appealing? And really, what end did we think the sexual revolution would come to?

how do we (parents) fight it? By simply NOT ALLOWING IT. Last I checked parents (should) have "control" over WTF a 13yr old did, said, wore, went, hell... practically what they were allowed to think. 12yr olds are NOT adults no matter what they may think and the media try to enforce. I ahve 2 children, ~3 and ~1 years old. I am DAMN SURE that I will have more influence on them then the media will. No question. Sure they will have friends that have parents that will let it slide and my little boy/girl may want to act/dress like their friends do. But what they want and what they get may end up to be 2 different things.

Parents need to (re)grab control I think and stop allowing the media to dictate how our children are raised.

And dont give me any "opressive parent" bullsh!t as that is the EXACT mentality that is 100% wrong with child rearing in todays age.

Of course,

I just meant to point out that Parents are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
It is their responsibility to not allow it, and they should not allow it... However, parents have the burden of being that nasty person who never let's their kid do anything (in their kids point of view), which of course is not true, but the problem being that if kids are bombarded with what these entertainers portray as being "Normal" for every kid out there, they begin to believe it, and resent their parents for it. SO, yes. Parents have a responsibility, I just feel for them b/c it is not being made any easier for them.
