Okay, I am planing to replace my CPU, Mobo, and RAM along with adding a CDR drive. Can I leave the WinXP installation on my main hard disk and boot up with all the new stuff? or should I wipe the drive clean and start all over with new stuff, and call M$.

Thanks to MOTM I have set up a triple boot system with Win98SE WinXP and Mandrake Linux. Now All I have left is to load all the little programs i may need. My question is, do applications need to be installed into each versions of windows or just one? For example if i install office in to...

New to linux, and dual boot.

Okay, maybe my question was too vague. As of right now I have Windows XP installed on one of my rigs. The 32 gig hard disk is one big NTFS partition. Now, I want to install Linux onto the system without sacrificing Win XP. Is there a way to do this? If so, I can probably figure this out, if...

New to linux, and dual boot.

Okay, I?ve done some research into running Linux as an operating system, and am totally ready to get into all the troubles of learning and using a non M$ OS. Now, I only have a few questions before I jump in. Okay, this is a common question...Which Linux distribution should I pick up? (I am...

    The better Pent. 4 based MB ? ...................... MSI 850 Pro5 -----or----- MSI 845 Ultra C ??? (RDRam/DDR?)

I would go with the MSI Pro 5 mobo because RDRAM is faster. The only drawback to RDRAM is that it needs to installed in pairs. I think that if you are going the p4 route then you should get the best that is available and RDRAM is best. Also, I know you didn't ask, but I would go with a p4 1.7...

Question about MSI's D-Bracket and "front" USB

Okay, i don't think going the P4 route was a bad choice at all (you can upgrade to a northwood later), especially with the MSI 850i Pro 5. It is an excelent motherboard that is made with overclockers in mind. In fact it comes a bit overclocked for added performance. In your box, you should...

    Case fans & RPM sensor

Okay, I have a MSI Pro 5 mobo and it has 3 rpm sensor/fan power sources on board (1 for the mobo, 1 for the power supply, and one for a case fan). Now I want to take advantage of the RPM sensor on the mobo. I was thinking that I could remove the two power wires from the 3 pin connecter and...

    Stock P4 HSF question

I also purchased the retail intel cpu/hsf combo and it did not com with a thermal compound. I believe the instructions do say not to use a thermal compound. Anyways, I am worried about the RPMS for the stock fan. i'm getting around 2700. Is this about right?

OC a P3 500...first time overclocking hlp Plz

Hey, thanks bacillus, that really helped. My cpu is now running at 600MHz, Okay, now I have more questions...about the ram, << 256MB dimms *must* be double-sided, two-bank dimms based on 16kx8m sdrams >> Does this litteraly mean that the Dimm must have sdrams on both sides of it? If that...

OC a P3 500...first time overclocking hlp Plz

Okay, I have searched previous posts on this forum and have realized I have the earlier version of the P3 500 and can only get about 600 mhz out of it. Thats fine with me, putting together a new comp anyways. Now just two questions...How do you get 600mhz, I can only get 575mhz? and how come...
