Maybe y'all can help a relative newbie - I haven't put a system together since the BX days.....

I got an MSI 850 Pro 5... yes- laugh all you want at me for going the expensive P-IV/Rambus route... but shouldn't I have gotten a full-up D-bracket or at least have D-LED's on the motherboard??? I was under the impression from all I saw on here and the explicit statements touting it as a feature of MSI boards that it was included, but when I got it, all I had was a plain old USB bracket... and the spot where the LED's should have been on the board was obviously not populated. I sent it back to Newegg, but thought I'd check here to see if I misunderstood the whole mess....

and speaking of misunderstanding, when they say "2 rear/2 front USB ports" how does a rear mounted USB bracket count as 2 front ports? Isn't there supposed to be some way to mount it to the front of the case or is that my responsibility to figure out? Or.... am I again misunderstanding something?

Funny how I can figure out how to do all the hard stuff in making it run, but the silly little things like this are driving me batty :)

and for the record, yes I know Athlon is performing better... I'll worry about building one of those this summer LOL

thanks for the help,
Glen

i do not have the board but by reading the menu. Its seems that the USB bracket you said should has some LEDs on it. That will be connected to J24. The D-LED and D-bracket may be options... There are many "possible", i mean options from this board.

Okay, i don't think going the P4 route was a bad choice at all (you can upgrade to a northwood later), especially with the MSI 850i Pro 5. It is an excelent motherboard that is made with overclockers in mind. In fact it comes a bit overclocked for added performance. In your box, you should have recieved the mother board, two dummy RDRAM moduals (installed), a FDD ribbon, a IDE ribbon, the USB networking/D-LED's rear mount bracket, cd, and manual.
For the 2 front 2 rear USB, it is an option. You have a choice of connecting the 2 front USB or the USB network bracket. Keep in mind that the front USB ports will be pluged in where the Network lines go and you will still install the D-LED/network bracket to use the D-led, but the USB on the bracket will not operate.

Yeah, and i'm also planning a Athlon system for summer, can't wait....

Hope this helps, if you have more questions email me.
