Do you, per chance, use the All in one mouse gestures plugin? I had the exact same issue and eventually tracked it down to the all in one gestures plugin, rather than tab mix or Image zoom. If you are using all in one gestures, you can turn off the tab list by unticking "Scroll wheel navigation"...
