Not really sure...I know someone that had that problem but they havent gotten it fixed yet. Id be interested in seeing if anyone knows so I could help him also.
Epox 8K7A
Just put one together.
No kinks. No problems. And its faster then the KT133A chipset. My benches are about 8% higher then a friend who got the KT133A mobo with SDRAM.
DDR isnt more expensive anymore, and it does outperform SDRAM even if it is by a fairly small margin. But the price...
I just tossed together a system using an Epox 8K7A mobo with an Athlon 1.2Ghz chip and 256MB Crucial DDR Ram.
The thing screams. I love it :) No problems either, totally stable.
The Epox mobo is the AMD 760 Chipset, not ALi (If it were ALi I never woulda bought it...)
Miniport driver update...
Oh its loud...sounds like the inside of a 747 while you are waiting to take off :)
But I dont mind...doesnt bother me.
As for the shaking...I dunno...No probs with that here. =P
Yeah...believe me I was worried when I put it all together. When I first plugged it in and turned it on, nothing happened. I freaked for a sc, then remembered I didnt turn the little switch on, on the back of the PS .... its always the stupid little things :)
But Day 2 and its still goin...
AMD Athlon Tbird 1.2Ghz
Global Win FOP38 HSF
Epox 8K7A DDR Mobo
256 MB DDR Crucial RAM
Leadtek Winfast GEForce 2 GTS Pro 32MB
Turle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card
30 Gig WD 7200 RPM HDD
Fong Kai 320 Black Case w/ extra front fan
This thing runs mint. Installed hardware, booted up first try...
Total system :
Athlon Tbird 1.2Ghz
Epox 8K7A Mobo
256 MB Crucial DDR Ram
Leadtek Winfast GEforce 2 GTS 32 MB
SB Live Value
CD-RW Drive
CD Drive
Thats really about it. Nothing outta the ordinary. 256 Megs should be enough to run Win 2k right?
Im gonna be building an Athlon 1.2Ghz/Epox system with standard components (SB Live and GEForce 2 GTS, 30 gid WD HDD etc).
The machine is 100% strictly Gaming and web surfing, nothing else.
What operating system would you suggest? Im currently running Win 98 SE...Dont really see a reason to...
Go to www.crucial.com and plug in yer mobo manufacturer and then the model...itll bring you right to a page with memory listed that works on that mobo.
I just received my Epox 8K7A mobo along with a Global Win FOP38 HSF and Arctic Silver. The Arctic Silver came in a small plastic tube that was open when I received it. Is it supposed to be fairly thick paste that doesnt move at all when its turned upside down?
Secondly, the HSF didnt come with...
To be honest, if i didnt have to buy another floppy (since im building a second system from my old parts) I would just take the faceplate off a beige floppy and spraypaint it black..no joke. Just remove the faceplate, bring it outside, put it on some old newspaper and spraypaint it black. Let it...
Black faceplates? Naw....black spraypaint dont cost much :)
A black floppy is the same price as standard floppies...and I gotta get a floppy anyway.
CD Rom drive im just gonna run my HP8100i as my main CD ROM and Burner. Its a darkish grey, so it wont clash anywhere near as bad as beige.
