What is the best Windows OS for securing the information on your laptop?

Win2K pretty secure and tried and true. Made for mobile. My army laptop had it and if you don't have the password, you don't go anywhere. Also, does not have IE security holes that XP has.

You probably have to shut down computer, reboot, and try again. If that doesn't work, uninstall the drivers and reinstall the drivers. Have you done any upgrades right before this happened, like upgrade to XP?

How would I determine if the problem is the print head?

Can you run the program that runs it through cleaning cycles? Have you tried that lately. Usually, even a stubbornly dirty and caked print head will start working after you shoot lots of ink through them (5 cycles of print head cleaning). Try that before you go off and spend money. Also, if...

When you can't get the drivers for the printer to work on your new XP computer, or; You're looking at the cost of a new drum. Then you may want to check out if replacement printer would be in the same ballpark $$wise as the new drum.

Poll: Which Printer: HP or Epson?

Definitely Epson. Superior printer. They set the standard and HP follows . . . especially when you're talking inkjet technology. Better bang for the buck, and they run forever also. However, they are not very forgiving when you put aftermarket ink into them. Just do more head-cleaning if...

the doc files should be opened by MS Word. Did you install MS Office on the new computer, too? You should get a dialog box that will ask you which program you want to use to access the file the first time you try one that doesn't have an internal link to the program, such as a .doc file. The...

Turn my computer into a full fledged answering machine?

I also used bitware Fax and voicemail, which comes free with most modem cards. The fax software is a lite version, but I was impressed with the phone answering software and its ability to capture and print out faxes as they come in, without conflict from the voicemail software. You can also...

What are some good data backup programs?

Is your computer networked with the computer you want to back up to??? Have you thought of backing up to a rewriteable CD disk, then copying over? Adaptec's software is pretty good at that, as well as most CD-R software (although most of them have yet to add a decent hard disk backup feature...
