Ok I would like to turn my computer into a full fledged answering machine and I know there is a lot of software out there to do that. However I would like to here what others have used or might recomend.

My only requirement is that I need answering software that supports multiple mail boxes. It doesn't have to be free but that would be prefered.

A friend used a program named Bitware for awhile... worked well. It had the ability to run a full fledged voicemail system with multiple voicemails boxes, and automatic fax retrieval.

I agree with Jugernot. I used Bitware and the answering service with voicemail worked very well.

I also used bitware Fax and voicemail, which comes free with most modem cards. The fax software is a lite version, but I was impressed with the phone answering software and its ability to capture and print out faxes as they come in, without conflict from the voicemail software. You can also save your messages for later play and storage. I would suggest that you try it. You should also have additional software from your modem manufacturer, if you didn't get Bitware with it.

When installing bitware, you will first have to remove any other fax software you may already have on your computer, or you will find yourself locked out from using any of them. Outcast had a bad habit of putting FAX software on my computer everytime he upgraded me and I wouldn't find out about it until I developed problems months later when I tried to fax something. I think he finally got the message after I screamed at him nonstop for 20 minutes the last time he did it. Of course, you never discover these conflicts until you are up against a deadline and try to use it, then have to figure out the problem, so you can implement the solution!!!

Good luck.
