It's 3:11 am and i spent the past half hour amusing myself reading this whole thread. By the way, isn't Best Buy going to have more in tomorrow morning? New shipment comes in tomorrow. I'm going to best buy tomorrow morning to grab those IMATION 12x 20 pack for 5 bucks (they come with slimcases). If i see any more burners then i'll grab as many as they let me. If any poor soul out their 'needs' one to do whatever they want with it, then let me know. I'll post tomorrow after i come back with results (whether or not i got any). Peace.

This should have been here, in the original thread, sorry for the double post:

Look what I found in my mail:

Q: How large is the cache of the drive? I could not find any information on this.

Dear xxxx
Thank you for using Iomega's Online Support services. The drive has a 4MB cache.

Sincerely,
Jeremiah

Now it's time to open the box!

This is NOT true. The drive specs say it has only 1.8 MB. Most Burnproof drives have about 2 MB cache, including the plextor one.

My Plextor 12/10/32A says 2MB in the manual. Elsewhere it states that Plextor drives with BurnProof have 2 or 4MB, but this one appears that to have 2MB.

DaVinci,
I doubt it will do you any good. It was a 2 day sale so there is nothing to pricematch anymore. And BestBuy only dropped their prices in the first place to avoid pricematching. It would be great if someone screwed up but I went to BB on Tuesday and their price was listed as $279 on the shelf (which was empty).

Why is this the only place that people are so facinated with the damn buffer :) 1800K is the same as 2048K if you consider there must be some workspace for the firmware to do job.

The only Plextor 12x burner that comes with 4MB is the SCSI version...

In case you have not heard... the Iomega drive can now be RENAMED to match the Plextor 100.00000%

I am a Manager for BB. The CompUSA deal was two days only. You WILL NOT get a price match at BB, since the sale is over.

Is this deal still going on?

Could someone explain the current status I really don't want to read through this entire post to figure out what's going on!

Thanks!

Hulk, the deal is over, the drives are back up to $279. Actually a whole shelf of them at a compusa here in St Louis, very depressing to see them sitting there at that price.......sigh

maybe compusa will come back w/ another crazy cdrw sale next few weeks.
so many big brand name stores are closing down b/c of lack of business.
i think if compusa has the same problem and want to generate more revenue/profit, they might do those kind of crazy sale often.

Got this in my e-mail today.:|

My order date and time are: 12/31/2000 @ 12:31:24 AM

of 3-4 weeks.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If at any time you wish
to cancel your order, please visit us on-line or call us at 1-800-653-3831.
Any delay in the shipment of your order will not affect the $30 Mfr. Mail-In Rebate.
All rebates will be honored, even after the expiration date.

Thank you for your patience. We look forward to serving you again in the
near future!

I am using Nero ver. 5.0.1.8 and it does not detect the zipCD 12x10x32. What is wrong with it? I know the drive works b/c I used adaptec direct cd to erase a cd-rw. Help...

Are you serious... that version of Nero is pretty stale, it is very easy to update nero. I recommend uninstall, install the latest demo download - then enter your serial to register.

Nero v5.0.3.8

For those of you who have kindly hosted websites with material on upgrading this drive, are you going to be maitaining them for the next few weeks? That would be much appreciated, and thanks for your help!

I would download all the update programs now in case they do disappear. You can also copy any paste all the site instructions and FAQs to a txt file to save on your hard drive.

Well, 4mb is still better because the burnproof does add a bit of slop to the burn. Better to never have to invoke burn proof, which is less morewith the 4mb buffer.

I wonder if a burner has to invoke burn proof on an audio CD, if the checksum or whatever it is will still be close enough that the CD can be identified using a CDDB query.
