Now, is the 8c16t version capable of doing 5GHz, or is it the 4c8t version? Should it be full 8c16t... well..

.

Well its their A0 8C engineering sample doing it (i asume). Lol.

If this is for the 8c that's beyond insane. Release can't come soon enough.

Lets guess FO4bjt2 comes and say hello...

If true, i will say hello... Now let's be cautious...

But i knew already that the frequencies would be higher... Reasoning and later confirmation from some source...
NEON FPU test, FO4, process characteristics... I already explained here my reasons...

On another forum where I am more "respected" i put my true forecast, that was 4 base and 4.8-5 turbo for the 8c. If an A0 ES sample can really OC at 5GHz on air, maybe i am not so far...

It would be really cool if that coded suggestion is true. But it doesn't pass the smell test. I mean, sure, Zen has no problem getting to 5 ghz on air, but AMD had to up-volt their demo sample to hit 3.5? Or that AMD would suggest base clocks of 3.4 if the thing can really turbo that well on air? It doesn't add up.

Hey, hype train goers, don't you find it a tad bit weird that the "source" only goes until that page, and the "message" destroys entire layout of the last page? I'll let you figure out the rest.

I don't see it happening. Not without power jumping through the roof, or more likely I think, with cores disabled.

As I recall we saw a leak from a AMD motherboard partner sometime back which mentioned Zen 5 Ghz. Few said it was with LN2. But the simple logical question is why would a partner mention that in marketing material unless its achievable on traditional air/water cooling for 24x7 running and as a competitive feature vs Kabylake.

Well, anyone around here with the printed magazine? It's an easy check on that page for the binary string.

Excavator 65W can overclock at 4.9 GHz on air on the 28nm BULK and HDL library.
Why a 2 nodes away process can't do better? Because its name is low power?

That's my question too, because the imgur album was posted by someone who certainly listed through magazine at least once. Not to notice a layout of entire page being so viciously destroyed? I don't buy that just yet.

Yea, lost in all this enthusiasm, is the fact that 8 core Zen with no IGP is only going to compete in a very small portion of the consumer market. So I dont really see much threat to the mainstream cpu market until Zen APUs come out in around a year or so. Like I said earlier in this thread, the major threat right now will be to the 6900k, which is clearly overpriced, and maybe to the 6700k and 6800k, depending on pricing and final performance, including overclocking.
Many users, especially more mainstream gamers who are aware of this but aren't tech savvy to know the details believe that zen is a chip for the masses. It's still not been made abundantly clear that this is not a consumer chip going up against the 4 core 8 thread cpus Intel has. As a result go over to neogaf, most users there think this will be super cheap with 8 core 16 thread chips around 400 and other options around 200-300. Not great for amd when users already believe your highend chips are budget gaming chips and not server alternatives.

The top Zen chip obviously won't be cheap (~$500) but on price/performance Zen will be far ahead of the current Intel CPU competition.

8 core Zen is not going to rock 5Ghz "on air" @ ~BW IPC ... I am trusting *that* when/if I see it 3 months from now.

Me too. I think that there will be zen quad core models for consumers to run at 4.35GHz max @95W (which i think it never reaches, more like 70 to 80 watt). My hunches now tell me i need to eat...
I made great Hungarian goulash for the first time.

Just lost my respect to Canard, if that was really included by the authors themselves and wasn't added by someone who prepared the magazine for printing.

Meh, both camps can price their HEDT to the moon for all I care. Mainstream Zen has to go really low to get me remotely interested, something like a 6600K/6700K equivalent for ~$100/200, and I'm saying that even if I'm still using my 6 year old OC 2500K. This is not remotely close to a C2D moment where 3GHz Conroe slaughtered everything prior in every single app back in 2006.

Wait. 6700k is like a $330 processor right now. Why would AMD have to charge $200 to get you to buy theirs? Does that even make any sense?

It's true. It's in the printed magazine.

So why would they bother to encode that in binary, when they could have published all the screenshots instead?

Well, it's not like it's well hidden or anything. It is literally a binary string right in the middle of a page. It's almost surprising people didn't find it earlier.

In any case if this turns out to be true, holy shit. 5Ghz on air on a god damn 8c/16t chip is insane.

Zen at 5ghz sounds ridiculous for one reason: AMD would be better than Intel. We can't absorb this kind of shock. Also, why are people saying this because of some flaky ENCODED magazine page?
I swear though, if AMD is trolling everyone with their 3.4ghz talk and then suddenly a huge OC bomb drops in all the reviews on release day, I will seriously laugh my ass off and then promptly buy a Zen platform.
