I jumped on Zen 1 (1800X), Zen 2(3900X) and Zen 3(5900X) day 1. But this time I am waiting for X3D units. I still do a fair bit of PC gaming and it seems to me that ever since modern boost algorithms improved so much that core OC brings diminishing returns, the performance seeking interest has moved to memory subsystems. In that sense I feel that X3D CPUs are starting to resemble the “unlocked” CPUs of previous decades.

So are you hoping for something with more cores than 7800X3D? Or are you ready to scale down to 8 cores?

Also have custom copper heatsinks ready for them :cool:

Aiming for ~6000MT/s @ CL28-36-36-72 with active cooling

Not sure why you would need to change the cooling to achieve those timings at that speed. The DDR5 speed limitation on Zen4 negates any reason to have such memory cooling.

  1. Newest information from hwbot discord about Zen4 is that upto 6600MT/s is possible.. Better/active cooling is always recommended with memory OC.
  2. I will push timings as low as i can at any given speed, and i'm not afraid of 1.6vdimm and above :)
  3. Stock heatstinks on their vengeance memory is pretty bad/small (Made for cooler compatibly for all big air coolers)

For me, since I am getting the 7950x, the 2 in the middle are both reasonable.

BUT... That just MSI, what is the whole platform going to do ?
Man the MSI boards look so good this time around (to me at least). I am wondering why Aorus has quite limited choices.
I will get the MPG X670E Carbon WiFi, to me it looks like a well balanced board rich with features but not overly enthusiast or gamery.

Super excited to test Android S AOSP build on this setup, also curious about QEMU arm64 emulation performance.
First thing I am going to do is 65W Zen 3 vs 65W Zen 4 test.
I cannot wait for those mouth watering gainzzzz.

I hope it will allow me a drop in for Zen 5 without buying new parts. Build is still quite costly even if it is going to make life easier.

I got the Define R5 case. It came today. The ram I have will not fit I don't think, and I had to mod the case just to get the 420 in there. I ordered a kit of
F5-6000J3238G32GX2-RS5K
cas 32, 2x32 gig for 64 gig total at 32-38-38-96 timings, seems pretty tight, but only 6000 instead of my 6600 c34.

So in the first pic, you see where I had to trim a little off the IO shield holder. In the second, its not the right motherboard, but I am sure it will be a problem with the AM5 ones also.

And the last picture is zoomed out. The only items that will be there are the case and 420 AIO, the motherboard is a defunct TR3 x399, but it works for testing I think

lol no, everything is progressing according to plan..

I wanted the heatsinks to come off as i'm planning to replace stock low-profile cooling with custom copper heatsinks (i linked them earlier in thread)
Like i showed in the picture above, i was giving the memory sticks a bath in thinner (aceton) to make the glue come off.. :)
