Well, its not new, but new to me. I have a 3090TI coming for this build. I could not resist, as its the fastest one EVGA makes, and was $1200 shipped NEW !

Believe it or not, I don't get that. ??????
Jay was talking on his YT channel about when the right time to buy a new GPU (or any PC part). It boils down to do you buy the part now or wait longer for the price to drop. If you wait too long the GPU could be gone for good and now you have to buy the new GPS at a higher price.

WTFTech claims they got the MSRP, and it's the same as Zen 3's original prices with the 7700X being the same price as the 5800X ($449). If this turns out to be true I guess they are afraid of E Core Spam to some extent.

What do you mean by being afraid of E Core spam? I don't think anybody expected Zen 4 prices to be higher.

Just the opposite, I think the expectation for 7600x and 7700x prices to be a little lower, and 7800x3d for $449.

So, maybe now, it looks like 7800x3d may be $499

Manufacturing costs are a lot higher.

If they ask 450$ for the 16T part without the Vcache, then they are in trouble... It depends how intel will price the 13600K, if it's cheaper than that then 7700X might be DOA.

The 13600K is probably $350 and the 13700K $499. So I guess that fits if the 7800X3D is $499.

If that turns out to be the actual pricing, then 7700X is DOA. There is no way AMD can ask the same price (450 is basically the same as 499) for 16T when intel will have much better part in 13700K.

If you look at "global situation", nothing can be cheaper especially when TSMC 5nm is a lot more expensive.

If you want cheep platform/gaming platform, long-lived AM4 is still alive or no problem. :grinning:

For now new AM5 platform is less important for AMD, especially when you see what is happening on server/HPC CPU market=Intel has sunk.

You have to be realistic, Intel is in big trouble no doubt.

I'm speaking as a potential customer. There is no excuse for AMD to ask that much money if they are not competitive in that price bracket. If the performance is not there, there will be no way to justify the price, especially when you count in the early adopter tax for the new board and DDR5 memory.

Customers do not care about the production cost, they care about performance/$.

MSRP is, the same as what they say about "The Code" in the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Yes, not too many choices of PCIe5 drives yet, just some vague announcements...

No reason to launch them until there is a wide adaption of PCIe5 motherboards but AFAIK there is
Samsung controller: Samsung 990 pro
Phison E26 based drives
Silicon Motion SM2508 based drives

We'll probably start seeing them this fall.

Samsung 990Pro is still Gen4. It was announced last week: samsung 990pro

I will be waiting this round around and learning more about the new platform. If possible my next upgrade will be for 32 core and 128GB RAM.

But very curious about everyone's experience here!

Samsung missed out on a big opportunity to be among the first out of the gate with a PCIe5 NVME drive. Kinda makes you wonder why they did that.
I haven't been following SSDs but I thought these peak sequential figures were something of a joke benchmark anyway. Most normal users (I mean me) benefit more from improved random IO.

Is PCIe5 necessary for more IO operations?

It would be more of a halo product thing than anything else. The 990 Pro as it stands is pushing 7450 MB/s reads which is getting close to the limit for an NVMe drive on PCIe 4.0, and that's overkill for most users. Still, they could probably push higher on PCIe 5.0 with a different controller.
