I'm looking at a new board. I was wondering if I got a Z690 board if they will update the bios ever to be able to take the new DDR5 memory? I'm actually looking at this board.

And that could pay for the Heat Sink you'll need,.

The price difference on the MOBO side is larger though for the DDR5 option. That's another $$$ you spend on the PSU.

There's a lot of factors that trickle down based on your decisions.
Now you lost me. What are we talking about here? Heat sink? PSU? Could you please explain? Thanks.

And also, what's up with almost all of the boards as they get up in price that they add this wifi crap. Why is that?
Lots of people love it. It is kinda convenient if you don't want to use a USB wifi dongle or a separate card. An ethernet cable in places where multiple people are living, is never a robust solution (I had to deal with people disconnecting the cable from the router whenever they thought it was the reason their Wifi was slow. After a lot of back and forth of me putting it in and them pulling it out, one of them twisted the whole cable with knots, rendering it unusable. Sadly, nothing I could do since I don't like confrontations so had to fall back to Wifi).

The money you save going with DDR4 version can be spent on the new HS since it's a different size from what you had before.

I don't have all of your current specs but a minimum would be the HS CPU and board.

Now, I'm going to look ignorant again, but I need to ask. The HS stands for ? I think I know , but not sure. And when you say the HS CPU you are saying ?

So, i doubt you're doing unraid with a 1660Ti so, there must be something else you're planning / using for it currently. If you could detail things out or put it in pcpartpicker.com and share the link we can probably come up with the best options.

Meh, using the 12700K handles all of that better. The improvement from a 8700K I was using before was night and day when it came to comskip and transcoding. No dPGU needed.

That is my office computer. I do video editing and the such on that. The new one is going to be for a Plex server like igor said. I'm not planning on a GPU in that build.

I have a bunch of things going on at my place. I have a Blue Iris server for my cameras. I have a CasaTunes server for my whole house audio, I have a Plex server that I'm upgrading to the new unRAID system. I then have 2 Synology NAS I use for backup of everything I have. Plus my office computer that I use for menial tasks and video editing. My biggest problem is making a decision. I don't follow along with the mobod industry enough to make good clear judgements on this kind of stuff. It is so great that there are great guys on here that are willing to help guys like me with making a decision that they will most likely keep for a long time if possible. Thanks again guys for all of your advice. It is truly appreciated.

Ok, well I stated you off with the board you mentioned on that link so you can add what you have in mind. When you change things though it changes the link so, if you drop it here we can easily take a look.

I have another question for everyone. On Amazon the MSI Z690-A DDR 4 board has a renewed version for $139. You get a 90 return policy, but the option to buy a 4 year extended warranty for $29. Now, I have a 4 year 3 month warranty, and save about $35 on the deal. Would you do it?
Asurion is company, and I have heard nothing but good things about their coverage. I wouldn't normally buy an extended warranty, but in this situation I would have to.

I've had no issues with renewed deals. Warranties are a swindle though as you have to jump through hoops to get a replacement or cash back. Skip it. If it's going fail it will within the 90 days and you simply ask for a replacement or send it back for a refund.

I understand what you are saying. I have been reading about Asurion and everyone that I read about said it was easy to get replacments etc. It even covers lightning strikes and surges. It won't cover accidental breakage when I get pissed and throw it against the wall though.

I've used them for phones in the past and getting s refurb replacement wasn't ideal but it was better than spending hundreds out of pocket. But a third of the price is a bit much. Now if you were getting a $1000 taichi it might make sense.

I understand. I wasn't saying it like I was mad or anything. That's the thing about text. You never know someones flavor. You're good. You're also very helpful to guys like me. I appreciate all of your advice and input. Thanks again, and sorry if you think I was being a jerk. I'm not really one, I hope. My wife may think so sometimes.
