Wow, lots of folks with poor taste in beer in here. The obvious answer is that there is no good macro beer.

I miss Yuengling. Went to college in PA and all we drank was lager. One of my frat brothers was from Pottsville and related to the family (he didn't have any hookups though).

My ex used to bring me a case as her carry-on (this was back before they banned liquids).

I don't think I've ever seen a thread where the majority of the posters overwhelmingly agree on a topic.

Brings a tear to my eye... :'(

I agree. I had never tried it until I moved to NC, and now I love it. It is a little light on the alcohol content though, so it takes a few more than usual to get a buzz going.

Isn't it 5% ABV?

Everyone from Pottsville claims to be related to the Yuenglings... but no one ever has the hookups. It is just one of those "things". Believe me.

I would have to agree with the original poster...had it for the first time a few years back when visiting my sister and bro in law who moved out to VA. Very nice tasting beer for a macro (and I really only drink imports and craft). Unfortunately can't get it out here in Colorado, and haven't seen it anywhere west of the Mississippi actually. Too bad. I was told that the brewing company takes payoffs from larger companies like Bud and Coors to not expand into the western states...who knows if it's true, but wouldn't surprise me.

I'd find that hard to believe. They probably don't have the capacity to support the country, and aren't interested in getting it. There's something to be said for making enough money, and not overstepping your bounds.

Edit:
Why can't I find Yuengling nationwide?
The Yuengling Brewery is a regional brewer that has manufacturing plants in Pottsville, PA and Tampa, FL. Currently we distribute our products over a ten state area along the eastern seaboard. While there is significant interest for our products nationwide, unfortunately we do not have the manufacturing capabilities to service customers across the United States. As a result, our focus and efforts continues to be on our loyal customers and markets that are logistically feasible to our production facilities.
What are your plans for expansion?
Over the past few years Yuengling's expansion into new markets has been limited. Our future plans for expansion are based upon our production capabilities and our ability to properly introduce and service retailers and customers in any new market. Such decisions are
based on a market by market basis.

/thread is appropriate here

I'd post a picture of my countertop filled with Yuengling bottles and cans, but it's kind of embarrassingly large.

Sure I like Sam Adams and some others, but I consider them premium beers. At the price of Molson, Labatt, Bud, Miller, and for only a little more than PBR, High Life, Busch, etc, Yuengling is far superior.

Heh, I live pretty close to the yuengling brewery. It was my staple beer in college. Was good, but cheap ($16 a case). I still drink it now on occasion, but not as much as I used to.

Pro tip: "Yuengling premium" is not actually premium. It's worse than the regular yuengling lager.

Here in Pittsburgh, it's as common to find Yeungling in a bar as it is Bud Light - in other words, pretty much every bar has it. Which is a good thing, as it's damn tasty! Usually my beer of choice when there are no micros on tap. The fact that its priced the same as Bud Light, etc is an added bonus. Has the perfect amount of flavor, slightly toasty tasting, and really the bar to which I judge all inexpensive beers.

I think Yuengling is pretty comparable to Fat Tire. They're both good.

No, it isn't comparable.
Fat Tire is good compared to all other beers.
Yuengling is good compared to other cheap beers.

I'm not sure what classifies a "macro" produced beer, but all of these are better than Yuengling:
Bass
Blue Moon
Stella
Red Stripe
Newcastle

Used to live in PA and liked Yuengling for a while. Then I tried one that had been in my fridge for about three years and it tasted like cheerio-flavored dogshit, and that ruined it for me.

Who leaves a beer in their fridge for 3 years?

since i can't get Yuenlgling here in the KC area, I guess I'l have to settle for Boulevard or Bluemoon. even my daughter like either and she is really finicky about what she likes.
