If the above-bolded were (completely) accurate nobody WOULD use Chrome. ;) Different browsers work better for different purposes.

Having said that, this ad-blocking thing is going to bite Google/YT in the a$$ hard if they don't back down. (good news is that it SHOULD help Mozilla/Firefox)

Chrome had a brief period where it was better, but that was a decade ago. I could personally never stand chrome.

Chrome is a bloated mess now I know .... but it still integrates with Google account crap more easily and faster than other browsers. (which we now know is no accident!)

The fact that Chrome has announced that starting in June 2024, they are going to block ad blocker add-ons in Chrome will only hasten users exit. Looks like they are taking lessons from Musk on how to fuck up a somewhat OK platform.

A lot(most?) of chrome's marketshare came from google spamming their products with it, and telling people it was the best, while giving them an easy to click button to install. They then gimped service to other browsers to ensure chrome was indeed the best. After that, all you need's inertia. Chrome became "the internet", and people kept going with it.

I haven't used Firefox in like a decade because Chrome's dev tools were light years ahead and Chrome was just much faster/smoother than FF ever was.

Similar to how Apple's marketing works. Sadly this sort of thing seems to work on lot of people. Apple or Google could sell a bucket full of sewage for $1,000 and people would line up for it in -40.

Started getting blocked again. Updated Firefox (and rest of my system while I was at it) and rebooted, and back in business. Hopefully it continues to be this easy.

I wonder if they're going to start going after people's channels for using an ad blocker, I could see them do that. I guess it would be a good idea to have a separate account to watch videos and upload videos if you care enough about your channel. Setup a "naked" browser with no ad blocker in a VM to upload with that. I will ride it out and see though, if they delete my channel I don't care enough about it. I will just move to Odysee only.

Happened again where I was getting blocked, decided to clear my cookies and log back in just to see, but Youtube must be using supercookies or something because even after clearing all cookies that end in youtube.com including subdomains it somehow logs me back in anyway. I presume using the log out function only "fakes" the logout so I was going the cookie route but that was not working. Went in ublock and was looking for an option to update rules and did something else (I was just poking around at this point I don't remember what I did) and now it works fine again.

As a side note I found this url that might be useful if you're curious if they are still working on a workaround or not: https://drhyperion451.github.io/does-uBO-bypass-yt/

Right now it shows that Youtube updated their anti adblock rules 3 hours ago and currently ublock can't bypass it yet. While YT does work for me right now it might stop.

Everytime it does stop working, it still works in a private browser window though.

Does it have something to do with login status? I'm not on youtube much, but I never login and have never been blocked. I do seem to get the video load delay.

I'm actually wondering that, if it only blocks when you're logged in. I tend to stay logged in as I get to see videos from whatever I sub to, but if I get blocked, then load the video in a private window (not logged in) then it works.

I am also kinda curious if they will eventually nuke your account if you keep using an adblocker. I'm willing to risk my 400 and something subscriber account for science. Not like I run a major channel it's just random vlogs and crap. If I got fully terminated I'd just make a new account and all my videos are still on Odysee. I still find Odysee a little clunky to use though, it just doesn't have as smooth of playback. Got to give it to Youtube as much as I hate lot of their policies, and even some of their site changes sometimes, there is not really any other site that is better and I always go back.

If you are a content creator, I think it is hypocritical for you to block ads on YouTube.

I don't know if I'd go as far as calling myself a content creator, I make like 1-2 videos per year. Some of the channels I watch actually vouch for ad block, they realize how ridiculous it is to try to use the internet without one now days. The really big channels have sponsors and stuff anyway. I don't think the ad model is something that will continue to be sustainable for very long as most people use ad blockers. If they actually succeeded in 100% blocking ad blockers people would just stop using it altogether.
