Depends entirely on the situation, and the most pertinent factors are being ignored.

Who is the victim? Did they get themselves into this situation or are they truly a random victim? If some shithead appears to have gotten himself into a situation he can't handle I'm probably not going to risk my life for him.

Does the attacker appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol? How is he moving? Balanced and moving 45 degrees is a strong indication that he has received some variant of martial arts training.

Attackers height, weight, distance and the length of the edge weapon are also huge factors.

I was asked once in the past by a random person to "back him up" while he attempted to break up a potential dangerous altercation. I was on board to knock some heads. He approached with me backing him up, and luckily the person who was heated backed down and left.

I don't doubt if it happened again, I would do it. I do have a CCW though, so it would be easy for me to confront. If I was unarmed, I'm not sure what I'd do...

no use risking my life to apprehend the fsck only to be caught in a civil lawsuit for assault, or murder if things went wrong.....and since i'm in california i'd be locked away for life...

I would call 911 and wait till they got here.
no way am i putting my life on the line for a mall cop job.

As a mall cop I'm clearly an expert in high pressure CQC. First I would tighten my helmet and steer my segway in his direction. As I rolled by I would quickly break the perps neck with my hands. Next I would step off my segway and behead him tossing his skull down into the pretzel time kiosk. Then I would calmly roll away on my segway and head towards the arcade to wow the teen girls with my heroic story.

although last time i checked, a lot of mall security has a rule on nonintervention i believe. i couldnt even get them to chase me out of the mall when i was in HS.

they have walkie-talkies for a reason, get everyone there and surround him, holding 4D maglites. if he moves, pound his skull to powder and put handcuffs on him until the police arrive.

not everyone is the type that will step in for a stranger, but the world does need some. i know i am one of those, ive done it.
