Yeah, by the time you grabbed something and got back there wouldn't be anybody to save.

Grabbing something to use as a blunt object and beating his skull in with it is going to actually have a chance of saving the victim.

I have no up close combat training and I'm not a very big person. Me just rushing in there unarmed would create two victims, not just one.

1) Whip out iPhone
2) Start Camera app
3) Record the beheadings
4) Wait until the guy is done
5) Leave the scene and wait for someone else to call 911
6) Profit by selling clip to news media days after the fact.

nice!

Clothes? Plant?
:\

Absolutely. You use can clothes as protection, and to tangle, and a plant makes a suitable bludgeon. That's why weapon laws are stupid. All they do is protect people from scary LOOKING objects. Almost anything can be a weapon if used as such ;^)

The correct answer is that a normal person would call 911 and stay the hell out of it. Mall cops don't have the weapons or training to deal with that situation and they're not paid to risk their lives.

The real world answer is which kind of mall cop is it? There are two kinds

1) Real cop wannabes who crapped out during the hiring tests and are desperate to exercise some sort of authority.

2) Guys near retirement age who are looking for nice peaceful paychecks.

Type 2 hides under their desk. Type 1 grabs a baseball bat from a sporting goods store and charges the guy hoping to be a hero. He arrives too late to save the victim and instead gets his own ass stabbed.

Clothing rack bar, clothes, trash can, chair, plant... There's all kinds of stuff around if you keep your eyes open.

Most people are unaware of the multitude of immobilizing techniques one can do using an African Violet.

I'd get naked and chase the guy screaming. He'd either think I'm crazier then himself and go or try to kill me too. Either way, I'm sure to make the evening news :D

The Gauls used to fight naked. It's a time honored intimidation tactic :^D

Clothes? Plant?
:\

Use the clothes to wrap your forearms so you can fight, or use the clothes to tangle\wrap the opponent's knife. Learned that stuff in a knife fighting course a decade ago... I also learned that I never want to be in a knife fight.

Call the cops.

Then I'd whip my cock out so the attacker would fall over laughing so hard they couldn't move until the cops showed up.

This is ATOT, everyone here is a black belt, dont you remember?

Who needs weapons...

Actually I am.. in MCMAP. Can provide proof. There is a lot of the program dedicated to knives.

And the OP is a wimp. Not helping fellow man is what is wrong these days. Just sit back and watch, dont forget to record and upload to youtube after! Since thats what happens all the time now.

Strangely enough, more people are afraid of edged weapons than firearms, especially if there's blood present.

It depends on the distances and other circumstances (cover, type / size of weapon, size of assailant, etc.) for me, but if I had to choose between an assailant with a pistol or an assailant with a large knife from a ~10ft distance, I'd take the pistol. Knives are a lot harder to control, and even when controlled, they're still a huge threat. If I manage to get a good grip on the guy's wrist / hand / pistol, I can either beat the crap out of him with my free arm / leg, or force him to squeeze off the entire magazine into the floor or ceiling. With a gun, I'd be more afraid of getting someone else shot than myself.

That's my hopes, anyway. I've never been in a knife or gun fight, and I hope to keep it that way.

In close combat, knives ARE a lot more dangerous than a firearm. However, and it's a big disclaimer, very few people actually know how to use an edged weapon. Most often, they are as likely to cut themselves as their intended victim. For that reason, I would prefer going up against an assailant with a knife because, I do know how to use a blade. Psychologically, large amounts of blood tend to trigger withdrawal.

i wouldn't run, i know that for sure.

I suppose 1: get the message out to call for back up
2: observe, keep for distance and wait for potential opening.
3: Attempt take down.

i suppose i have a different mindset to a security guard. It is well known sg's are pussies. all they do is observe and report.

I have a soldiers mindset

I'm actually a security guard. :(

With a soldier's mindset. :)

First: I wouldn't go out of my way to uphold policy, I mean I'd try, but not put my life on the line, for instance. I'd be like "alright fuck it, not paid enough, and this has little impact on anybody."

But, I would go out of my way to protect other people. That's just how my brain thinks. Business I don't care about, not that much at least. But people? Yeah, I'd sacrifice mine for someone else. Then again right now I don't have children.

Overseas in war the children thing wouldn't stop me, but it might stop me if I was still a low-pay security guard trying to save someones life. Maybe. Depends on how I feel after carefully reviewing the situation and environment. If I have a chance to get the first shot at causing harm to a perp, I think I'll take it 9 times out of 10. Only if lives are on the line though.

Call 911, then find the nearest store with longer, heavy objects for sale and engage him with said object until law enforcement arrive.

If I'm in the mall as a civilian, my permit is recognized, and I have a clean shot he'd get very brief warning and, if he didn't stop immediately, a few .380 hydrashoks from as close as I could safely get.

If my permit is not recognized, see if I can hit him with my Kimber Pepper Blaster II (2-shot, 90 mph ~8" spread blast of pepper spray) and at the very least hinder him. If pepperspray works, use my limited h2h training to attempt a disarm, or go for aforementioned long, heavy object in nearby store. If pepper spray doesn't work, keep a safe distance, throw shit, attempt to distract until law enforcement arrives.
