I would call 911 and wait till they got here.
no way am i putting my life on the line for a mall cop job.

I'm never unarmed, but just to play along, I'd use an improvised weapon to handle him. There's enough crap around a mall to quickly find something useful.

Everything is a weapon or shield and an extension of your body if you wish it to be.

Distraction can work as well.
 
First, I would call 911/the police.

After that I would go to the nearest store that sells something I could use as a weapon (Hopefully there is a gun shop or something in the mall), grab that, and beat the hell out of the guy that is doing this.

I might try to enlist help from other people in the mall.

With your way of communication i am sure he will release his victim and go after you instead.

A quick stop at the sporting good store would help. Might not be able to get a gun, but a baseball bat is a decent weapon.

Clothing rack bar, clothes, trash can, chair, plant... There's all kinds of stuff around if you keep your eyes open.

Have you not played Dead Rising or Dead Rising 2? All you need are boxing gloves and a couple of machetes. Then you're good to go.

Yeah, by the time you grabbed something and got back there wouldn't be anybody to save.

Grabbing something to use as a blunt object and beating his skull in with it is going to actually have a chance of saving the victim.

That is indeed an issue. Better to follow the advice of lxskllr.
 
I'd grab a weapon, probably try to get some more people to do the sane. As others mentioned you can use just about anything as a decent enough weapon vs a knife
 
i wouldn't run, i know that for sure.

I suppose 1: get the message out to call for back up
2: observe, keep for distance and wait for potential opening.
3: Attempt take down.

i suppose i have a different mindset to a security guard. It is well known sg's are pussies. all they do is observe and report.

I have a soldiers mindset
 
It all depends. If we're up against one person, I'd fight back. If it's a group of people, I'd call police but physically stay out of it (though it would probably haunt me for the rest of my life).

Assuming you're only up against one lunatic with a knife:

1. Duck out of sight
2. Call 911
3. Find at least 1-2 other people who are willing to fight back
4. Grab nearest object(s) that are sturdy and have a long reach
5. Use said objects and volunteers to keep attacker at bay while waiting for cops to arrive

It's a really iffy situation, but I know I couldn't live with myself if I didn't do SOMETHING. If fighting back was just throwing myself to the slaughter (for example, if there were multiple groups of attackers), it'd be a different story.
 
1) Whip out iPhone
2) Start Camera app
3) Record the beheadings
4) Wait until the guy is done
5) Leave the scene and wait for someone else to call 911
6) Profit by selling clip to news media days after the fact.
