Sorry I hadn't specified this in the beginning. This rig is strictly for gaming. He hasn't been able play the newest games for a while noiw, and he wants to get back into gaming.

Again, thanks for all you help :)

Regardless of all arguments. The sad, or perhaps not sad, truth is that any athlon 64 3400+ or higher is a better performer for gaming than the 3.4EE or 3.6. A fact.

Well, in that case, and if he wants the best, even if its only a little faster, the FX-53 is king in gaming PER ANANDTECH !!!

Then what else could it be? Im flabbergasted, to say the least, as to why these little pests annoy me about me my perfect CPU.

My guess would be your attitude moreso than your choice of CPU.

I say go for it.

And I'll come in again and say what a horrendous value and purely emotional choice that was.:)

You know it's a poor buy and strictly for bragging rights just like an FX-53 is. The 3.6E and 3800 is right there with them for half the price. Add to the fact MUCH MUCH MUCH lessor chips can be overclocked without any danger to thier performance levels I think it's very poor advice to suggest these boutique chips to any novice.

Zebo, I agree totally. I only said FX-53, since the comment was made the fastest gaming cpu available regardless of cost. And they are unlocked, and thus will OC better than the 3800+. That is worth something. From what I have read as of late thought the 3500+ 90mn chip OC'ed might be the best "value"

In light of this fact, he either wants

a). A socket 939 FX53 now or

b). a socket 939 FX55 later

Nothing else will compare.

if he want's best of the best i'd wait until nf4 with sli boards come out and put that with an fx 55, 2 nvidia 6800 gt's, 2 gigs of ddr500, and a promedia mach II for the cpu and two high end watercooling systems for the graphics cards

maybe wait a little longer to 1st half next year for the fx 57 on 90 nm which should be an overclocking beast and a newer generation video card...

I don't have any, but Tom's Hardware does...
Your brother will have to pony up a little $$ for cooling. But if he "doesn't care the cost." and "If one part is even slightly better, he wants it."...
This setup should make him very happy! ;)

Perfect??? If it were perfect, it would cost like $300. Oh man, this is the most expensive CPU, but not the fastest, why anyone would be jealous when you can get 939 CPUs with superior performance and lower price.

It looks to me like he's just trying to justify his $1000 purchase to himself.

So, you've got an über-expensive CPU? :cookie:
Just don't be surprised when everyone doesn't pat you on the back and tell you it was a good purchase, when you create a bragging thread. :p

Especially when you can get similar performance for 1/2 or even 1/3 the price. :p

The nice thing about having a 3200+ on an old socket 754, is simply knowing that with my DFI lanparty I can get performance close to yours for only $200. And the extra $800 dollars in my pocket aren't shabby either. Then again, water cooling is a must.

GPUs are where it's at, not CPUs. I'd wait for SLI and get 2 x800XTPE if you really wanna spend money.

But they come here for advice, and right now the best advice you can give this person is to go AMD!

FelixDeKat, I wanna solve something once and for all,
http://www20.tomshardware.com/...19/cpu-scaling-09.html
this is a benchmark of an FX-51 being overclocked v.s. the P4EE being overclocked, FX-51 bests the p4EE at every turn. Now I'm not ratting on your proccessor, I mean it is a great chip, but, given a choice the AMD is really a better performer at this point. The P4EE is a good chip, can't doubt that, but I would never pay $1000 for it, and like it has been said before, to each his own. Now the reason everyone bags on you and gets on to you all the time is the fact that you are constantly recommending the Intel chips to people, who would CLEARLY benefit more from an A64 than a P4.
