My first internet account was a shell account, back when the only internet you could have was a shell account. Netcom.
Then I moved to AOL, then to various different local ISP's, then to AT&T Broadband, then to WOW (Wide Open West which was DSDN) then to Comcast which I have currently. I pay for the 6 Mbps service but I get between 8-10 Mbps downstream. I was the first person I knew that had internet, the first person to get AOL, and then the first person to ditch dial-up. I was always on the cutting edge. Now that Verizon doesn't have FIOS in my area, I'm no longer on the edge
EDIT: And after looking through all of these reply's, I bet I was one of the first people on this board to have internet other then Aimster (who sounds like he had netcom shell based as well). If you didn't experience the net before it was all colorful and pretty, a la a shell based unix account, you didn't experience the net. Which is kind of funny because I'm only 25 yo, and I got my first internet in 1990 or 91.
