prodigy, GEnie, NVN, AOL, Delphi, a MCI/Delphi joint venture thing that never got off the ground.. I guess that was the first actual internet thing I had, Netcom.. which became mindspring, which became earthlink.. earthlink cable through time warner.

I had a couple local dial-up ISPs, FreeDSL (THAT was a fiasco and a half), Verizon DSL (almost as bad as FreeDSL, IMO), now Comcast Cable. Waiting for Verizon FIOS to be available; not very likely until next decade.

First came Compuserve. My dad had it and introduced me to it when I was probably 11 or 12 (this was 1993-4ish). He showed me the text-based games. I was like "Cool!" and started logging on myself after school. Stumbled across a game called British Legends, which was pay per hour, and racked up a $200 bill. Dad found out and got mad. I stopped playing for awhile, but then did the same thing a year later and CServe was cancelled.

AOL came prolly a year later when we got one of those X hours free. Well, we ended up with a $60 bill (AOL was pay per hour then) and again dad cancelled.

1997 AOL went pay per month and I convinced my dad to sign up for it again. Interwebs again!! This went through to 2000 when I left for college.

Now I use Comcast.

an ISP called WWDC back in 1996. 33.6 dialup, then in 1998 went to Rogers broadband cable.. 3mbps. I then last year upgraded to 5mbps. Had rogers for almost 8 years. Nary a problem that wasn't easily fixed by their surprisingly decent tech support.

My history:

Netcom -> local isp -> "erols" heh -> university of md dial up@home while I was at the university -> comcast. That is the past 11 years... holy crap.

AOL for 6 months in 1993, although at that time they couldn't really be considered an ISP because the only Internet functionality they offered was FTP and Gopher. Maybe usenet. Quickly switched to a local ISP (fast.net) for the next 12 years or so, then I got married and moved to a place where cable Internet is available.
