started back then worked my way through every dialup ISP that was worth a darn all the awy up to 6 mbit RR premium now.
 
prodigy (ca. 1991) > AOL (and at the same time, some bbs service) > university ISP > time warner > optimum online

i had AOL in 1992. back then, it was $9.95 for the first 5 hours and $3.95 for each hour thereafter. if i recall, AOL boasted 250,000 members, among which author Tom Clancy was one. he used to hang out in the AOL Lobbies back in the day before they are what they have become. i remember hanging out in the chat room with him (and Steve Case), but being a kid, wasn't as interested and actually went to a more respectable teen chat than you see today. 😛
