My first "Internet" connection was probably '91 or '92, dialing up to local BBSes on a 2400 baud modem... One of the boards I was on set up an Internet gateway in 1994... I remember thinking "Email? Why do I need THAT when FidoNet exists?"

My first connection to the Internet was dual T1's, my freshman year of college in 1995...

My first personal internet connection was through Netcom in 1990 or 91. It was a shell account over a 2400 bps modem. I got that after my contract at NRL ended and I suffered acute net withdrawal pains. :Q

14.4 doing the BBS thang during HS. dunno really when that was - i'm guessing 91 or 92.

*EDIT* - Just remembered that my external intel 14.4 was after my BitCom 2400 baud. That's what I recall using for BBSs.

LOL!

I remember that. On the BBSes, you had to turn Local Echo off.

I used to dial up to BBSes on my dad's computer all the time when I was about 12. I have many fond memories of playing Trade Wars and Pimp Wars on BBSes....

My First Internet Connection (sounds like a Fisher Price toy or something :D) was a 28.8 connection on my brother's computer. Have cable at home and a T1 at work presently.

Netcom- $19.95/month for 20 hours (1995 or so I beleive) When they went to 100 hrs/month I was like "WHHOOAAAA!!!!" That was at 28.8K too.

Now I'm at 1500/256 unlimited for free :) Life is good.

AOL 1.5 on a sloooooooooow modem. Didn't matter, our phone lines couldn't handle anything above 28.8k anyway as I later found out.

AOL technically wasn't the Internet until Version 3, when it had Internet access added. If online services count, then I had Compuserve on my C64 with a 300 baud modem at $6/hr. You could actually see the text typing out across your screen heheheh.

CSLIP emulation on a shell account from a local ISP, 2400 baud. This ISP later got absorbed into what ultimately became CompuServe.

The year - 1996
The PC - a 486
The connection - a 28.8k modem

Oh, and if we're counting prodigy, then that would be in the early 90's (1991?) with my 2400 baud modem and a 286 - yehaaa! Oh how far we have come...

Heh. I had one of those subpar phonelines - thank god for DSL though!
