My first connection was from IceNet in 1994
cost me $38.99/month. Thats back when I
though my 520mb WD HD's were huge and
1gig harddrives were like $300. CRAZY.

a 28.8 modem. and i connected by hacking into Bowdin Colleges internet so i didnt have to pay for it.

that was in like 97.

first connection of my own, or first i used?

first used was some.. 33.6 i assume dial-up deal, at school

first owned was cable, i think $25 US or so /month.

Don't remember what year it was or how much I paid for it... but it was a 14.4 connection with CompuServe...

Compuserve back in... 97 or 98... I can't quite remember. I just remember using my buddy's account because he wasn't that "smart." Those were the days. 😀

First connection from my computer to another computer was a 300 baud, acoustically-coupled modem on a TI-99/4A computer connecting to a school computer, some time in '83 or '84. First connection to a BBS was a 14.4 to a local BBS in '89 (using a 386 something). Finally, when the intarweb was available in my area, I connected a 486 SLC-40 at 28.8 but was capped to 19.2. I got cable last year and will nevar go back!!

56k..which I used all the way up until I left for college 2 years ago. after college LAN goodness, i can never go back to dialup.

28.8 modem with earthlink...then we got a 33.6...then we got a 56k and I Thought "WOW that's fast." Now I'm dsl and couldn't go back.

Got on the Intarweb in 1995, in a college computer lab.

First home connection was in 1998, 33.6 with a local ISP, until I moved to DSL in 2001. Wooo.

1994 seems about right... AOL for about 4 months, then switched to a real ISP. 14.4 modem. First web browser I used was Netscape 1.12 I think. Mosaic was around then too. Remember that stupid yellow blinking tag? Ugly. Remember the magazine The Net? I subscribed, and I was so pissed when they decided to change the name and purpose of the magazine out of the blue one month... It went from being an Internet magazine to a business magazine! (Business 2.0 is what it's called now I think)

My first connection at home was in Canada 96.
At that time I was happy with a 486DX266 with
20Mb ram and 420Mb HD.
The old US-robotics big-size internal modem
made a whopping 28.8kbps, and actually works
even today. Somehow it now runs 33.6kbps.
Had to pay $25CAD per month for that in 96.

/xtian
