Battlezone 1 was definately a great game - it was one of my favourites for years. I was never so impressed with the sequal, though.

But Terra Nova is the epitome of this type - the game was so far ahead of its time it wasn't funny, and played like a dream. Its a damn shame that looking glass never released the multiplayer addon they promised, and then folded

Terra Nova, also Incubation. Loved em both. Oh yeah, Uprising was a lot of fun too.

Anyone remember a game called Death Rally? It was an old 2d racing game. I loved that game!

Oh yeah, I remember this game now. Don't you go to your girlfriends house and some people come and kidnap her or something. I remember hiding in the trash so the garbage truck would take you through the gates that were guarded or something. All that was at the beginning. Can't remember ever finishing the game though.

Serious answer:

Bioforge

I <3 that game. Something about beating people to death with the arm you just ripped from their body that gives me warm fuzzies inside.

Oh, and Freelancer. Only know 3 people that have played it, one of them I introduced, the other introduced me.

Edit 2: And for completeness, the most excellent series of Mac-only games (And with the most engaging and open-ended storyline EVER for an FPS, or probably any game) Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon: Infinity.

If anyone has the Marathon games, PM me, I will PURCHASE them from you.

I really liked freelancer, needed more scope though....too short. Brought back the old days of Elite which I used to play. :)

Unfortunately, when I installed mods for the game (the base game was entirely too simplistic and in some cases, factually incorrect), the program itself was plagued with a glitch that would drop be back to the desktop with no warning whatsoever, as soon as the game had a certain number objects to keep track of. Thus it was never possible to have what I would think would be a true naval simulation - multiple CVBGs with several airwings in the air, with several dozen cruise missiles and SAMs all on certain trajectories. This limitation really limited the playability, but that didn't change my opinion that it as a good game once the mods were installed.

I really liked FC too, so I was really looking foreward to Larry Bond's Harpoon 4... but its cancelled. :(

Where do you think I got my name? (datalink).

One of my favorite games ever (top 5 for sure).

I noticed that. Do you still ever play it? I might dust it off sometime soon - it is just THAT good. Lacking graphics is fine...it's all about gameplay.

No... I lost my copy. I need to find another somewhere (though that might be hard as it has been so long since it was made).

I felt for a long time that H4 would never see the light of day. I think FC sold way less than expected, there's just not much of a market for that type of insanely complex RTS game. It's a pity too, I wanted H4 to suceed where FC with the NWS mod failed - namely, for me, in game engine stability.

I have yet to see one person who plays the Sudden Strike WWII RTS series in any games forum I visit that has a question similar to this. The weaponry is so well detailed and the games are so much fun if you enjoy that time period although they do have some flaws.

CONFLICT. It was CGA/EGA, on a floppy disk. Anyone else play that? You were israel, and you had to protect yourself from the other middle eastern countries.

Jurassic War.

Best almost unknown strategy game ever. There was a sequel, too, but I couldn't get it.
