This is a poll to see what CPU most people are currently running. I'm curious to see how many people are still happy using previous generation chips that Intel is trying to entice with their new Sandybridge processors. I have a feeling there is a HUGE base of early Core2 Duo/Quad folks out there just waiting for a GOOD reason to upgrade. Thanks in advance for participating!

**UPDATE**

Very interesting note. Since putting up this poll 1 week ago I have watched the numbers grow, yet it has stayed extremely consistent with 25% AMD vs 75% Intel all the way through. Also, I was a little off with my expectations on how many people, like myself, were still on the Core2 technology. Maybe that's part of my reason for upgrading to SB.

So I did break down and decided to jump on the Sandy Bridge band wagon. I have a 2600k, Asrock Extreme 4 with 8GB of G.SKILL Ripjaw X 1600 to put together this weekend. :)

I currently have a Core2 Duo E6750 that I am dying to upgrade.

I already know that this pc is on borrowed time because the random crashes is getting more common.

Well I have been looking to upgrade the system since the i series processors were released but with getting an apartment, a car, and paying back student loans put it on hold.

I have a q6600 i might be upgrading from. I paid 30 bucks for it a year ago from a friend so i don't mind replacing it with a 2500k.

Currently have an Athlon X2 4800. Lasted me 5 years with various other component upgrades, but enough is enough!

I'm currently using an overclocked Q6600. Say what you want about the Q6600 but if you are running over 3GHz with SSD, Win7 64bit and a hi end video card it still kicks pretty damn well. With a few exceptions I dont know how much "wow" Im gonna see with a SB upgrade other than benchmark numbers. Slightly smoother game play since everything is alreay maxxed out?

I was definately excited for SB and had every intention to upgrade and still may just for a geek tech "fix" but with what I just said along with a lack of some important SB/1155 features (native 16x PCIe for SLI and native usb3.0) and limitations (no cpu overclocking with access to embedded GPU) its making me wonder if I should just wait.

Once again my theme in recent posts has been "Now I know what Intel's "Mainstream" processor means and why I may be waiting for the "Enthusiast" release..

I7 920 @ 4GHz
i will NOT be upgrading to SB anytime soon itll prob be 2+ years before i start to condider a CPU/Mobo upgrade

nothing i do stresses the CPU enough to where i feel its the limiting factor, if i cant play new games a vid card upgrade will do more for that then a new CPU

See sig for CPUS. Not upgrading for at least another year or 2.

My PCs do just fine AND some for my needs. Once there is a need, I will upgrade.

Gaming industry will dictate that mostly....

At home I have a Phenom II, which will just get upgraded to a better Phenom II this spring.

But my work machine is an aging E6550. I have been due for a new machine for a while, but have been purposely holding off for SB. So now I just need to wait for machines to released with them.

I just upgraded from e8400 to i7 950 after 5 years on LGA 775 platform. I am probably going for a similar cycle before my next platform upgrade. Maybe SB wont even be there then!

I hear you! Definately with your setup I would feel the same. Software needs to catch up first!!

Im running a i7 930@4.2Ghz

I aint going anywhere till LGA 2011 or possibly the next enthusiast socket after that. So 2-4 years. If i can get by in 2 years with a GPU upgrade only and not be CPU bottlenecked i will do that and wait it out for another 2 years after that.

I seem to go 2 years between GPU upgrades and if my CPU can still keep up why upgrade. My motherboard has SATA 3, USB 3, and can take up to 3 cards in SLI or crossfire. Im set for a while.

Now that i said that i know ill be first in line for 2011 when its released :)

I have an E8500 system and plan on upgrading to the I5/7 system once you guys start unloading them to buy the Sandy Bridge.

Phenom ii , unlocked 4 cores and oc to 3.6 ghz

Just upgraded to this and will have it for about two years or so until the very last supported am3 chip is released at a decent price and will just drop the phenom into my wifes older AM2/am3 board at which point ill buy the most modern am3 chip i can get to make my mobo last a few more years before i move to the next best socket type.

Pentium 4 here. I've got everything for a new system except the CPU, Mobo, & Memory.

I'm getting a 2600k and probably the cheapest board that meets my needs from either Gigabyte or MSI. Since DDR3 is cheap I'll be going either 8gig (2x4gb) or 16gig (4x4gb) depending on how much the board costs me.

My next upgrade will most likly be an octo-core when for Ivy Bridge is released for enthuist.

Going from a C2D E6600 to a 2500K.

Edit: ...as part of a complete rebuild that I'm very excited about. I'm glad I found these forums a few months ago. I feel much more informed about what components to buy and the issues to consider.

Have a C2D e6750...which will become an HTPC box.
Have a C2D e6600...which is my WHS and will not change.

Will be building a new box with probably the 2500k. My current desktop was built in Sept. 2007 so we're just about at 3.5 yrs by the time I build in Feb. or March.

Q6600 @ 3.2, done me well for many years - never felt *slow*. Planning to replace it with a SB K series soon. Now is a great time to upgrade - SB is pretty cheap, motherboards not bad either, you are using a brand new socket so good for future compatibility, and DDR3 ram is very cheap.

Athlon XP2500+. SB is going to be like building my first system all over again.

Upgrading from a 2500 to... a 2500? o_O

It's a good time to upgrade, that is true. RAM is cheap. But I'm going to sit on my 775 quad-cores for quite some time, perhaps until BD2.

I've currently got a Phenom X4, 2 Athlon II X4, and a Phenom II X4 all overclocked. I have absolutely no need for more performance than any of these offer, but I'll still be building a bulldozer, or possibly I5 2500k based system later this year.

x6 1055t @4.0 not a AMD octomom, but is sufficient for sure. Intel platforms permasuck. Don't even both switching from c2d 775.
Another 12 mother socket for intel coming right up.

I got three new computers in the last couple of months.

1) iMac Core i7 870 (2.93 GHz quad-core with HT). This was a replacement for a defective iMac.
2) Pentium SU4100 (1.3 GHz dual-core) netbook.
3) Athlon II X3 435 (2.9 GHz triple-core) desktop.

This should last me several years. I have no interest in Sandy Bridge at all in the near term.

And I bought these with full knowledge that Sandy Bridge and AMD Fusion were imminent. Why? Cuz Athlon II X3 and Pentium SU4100 machines are cheap as borscht now sometimes. I don't game on any of these machines anyway.
