Waiting to see how it affects AMD prices. If AMD's prices don't move (especially on a hexcores), then I'll wait till June. At that point we'll know how Bulldozer pans out....and it'll come down to BullDozer vs Intel's offerings at the same price point.

I have an E8500 system and plan on upgrading to the I5/7 system once you guys start unloading them to buy the Sandy Bridge.

i'm thinking about similar, though i have a q8400. doesn't seem to slow me down so i'm not hurting for a cpu upgrade as much as i was last year (had a dual core opteron then, sloooow)

I'm probably due for an i5-2500k and new mobo and memory. Then I can put my system 1 stuff in my system 2 pc and upgrade that.
Truthfully I have no problems with what I have now which I mainly use for gaming, but I think SB will be reasonable as far as upgrades go in terms of price and overclocking.

Running two i7 systems at fairly high clock speeds and very happy with what I have. If I do upgrade, it probably be when Intel refreshes the SB-E CPUs. So sometime in 2012.

Going from a C2D E6600 to a 2500K.

Edit: ...as part of a complete rebuild that I'm very excited about. I'm glad I found these forums a few months ago. I feel much more informed about what components to buy and the issues to consider.

Welcome to the forums Avogadro! Glad you found it as well! I've been here a long time and it's been my main source for info on all my builds forever!

I have an Athlon X2 5600+ and a 7800GTX.

It's possible I might see some extremely minor improvement with the 2600 & GTX570 rig I'm building. :p

Stock P4@2.4 to a 2600K.

I can't wait! :D

I'm right there with you (desktop-wise anyway). I've had my Northwood P4 2.4C running at 3GHz for 7+ years. It has served me well (literally, now that it's running WHS).

Even my laptop is getting long in the tooth. It's nearly 3 years old now. The 2.5GHz Penryn C2D is no slouch, but there's only so much I can do with a laptop. For instance I don't feel comfortable letting it run full-tilt for hours on end doing video transcoding.

Either way, a new system with an i7 2600K is going to smash both of my current machines

Q6600 (B3).

So, yes. I started ordering parts last night for my new build, and will be picking up a i7-2600k on Sunday morning (assuming I can get one from Microcenter).

I have Athlon X2, so SB is a pretty nice upgrade for me. If I had first gen i5/i7, I would completely ignore SB.

4 year old Intel dual core something or other notebook with a graphics card and HDMI output. Still plays all the movies I want to play and loads all of the internet just fine. I think at this point computers are becoming just wear and tear items, when it wears out or breaks, I get a new one, with the cheapest CPU that gets the same job done.
Unless you are doing serious number crunching or 3D gaming, there hasn't been much in terms of new capability that you get from a faster CPU. It's not like before when your computer became obsolete very fast.

Might entertain the idea of a 2011 chipset if performance is outrageous, otherwise I am good for a while.

Hmmm the I5 2500K for $179!! Maybe I'll forget the old and go with the new.

I wonder if that pricing is going to knock the bottom out of the old 1156 CPU's.

Send the 980X my way plz ;) Im okay with being second on the food chain.

intel is hoping people would think the cheaper sandy bridges gets review that it could somehow possible be a better performer then a x58 1366 , 6 core cpu

intel wont tell people they wont because they would lose money on the sandy bridge who is a replace for the 1156

Br previews and reviews claiming sandy bridge is better then the current i7 1366 is helping sandy bridge make money and intel

you wont get no denials from intel , because they are benefiting from it

the i7 2600 is the only sandy bridge what equals i7 950

thats why the sandy bridges are for , not to compete with the 6 core 1366 because they cant at the moment

I'm going to upgrade my P4 541 (3.2 GHz, HT, Prescot 90 nm, 84 W) and nVidia GeForce 8400GS to a 2500K on a H67 board.

I agree whole heartedly!! That's when you need to go to an SSD hard drive if you want to see/feel improvements on your PC. Improvements with boot time, web browsing, email, basic image editing, etc.

It's great to see how things change in the tech world! And it seems to always be for the better!! Cheaper, faster, lasts longer! woohooo!

Still running a Fry's special pin modded e2200 here. I've been meaning to upgrade and put the old chip into a full-time HTPC.

I'm definitely looking to upgrade this generation. I'll probably wait for the new Z68 boards to hit the market before doing any serious shopping though.

OCed i7 920 here, I have no intention of moving to SB for desktop, but I usually skip CPU generations until the difference is substantial, like 3-5X or more.
But I might get a SB laptop, battery life looks pretty good, and integrated graphics is finally adequate.

Nope...not ready to upgrade because...silly me...I just built an i5-760 rig.

I SHOULD have waited for the launch of the i5-2500K...but it just wasn't gonna happen.
My wife wanted to buy me parts for a new computer for x-mas...and didn't want to wait for January...
No complaints though. This thing is miles faster than the P4 rig it replaced.
