I got my 18 year old sister a laptop for her graduation gift and now a cellphone for college. My 14 year old sister also wants a cellphone because she just entered high school and said she didn't get anything for her junior high grad gift except for flowers.
Here are my questions:
1) Should the 18 year old pay for her own cellphone plan? Originally I was going to pay for it but I don't want her to just think everything in life comes for free. I want her to cherish her cellphone because she is paying monthly payment on it. It's responsibility that I want her to learn.
edit:
This is a dilemma because I've been paying for my younger brother's cell phone plan for a year. So if I made her pay for it now, she would think it is not fair...
2) Should I get the 14 year old girl a cell phone? Do 14 year olds NEED cellphones? And if she DESPERATELY want one, should I make her pay at least half of the payment just so she would know responsibility too?
For the record, they are good girls who do chores around the house and help out a lot, which is why I don't mind spoiling them. But when is it too much?
