a VERY long story short.

so you own a successful family business which has been running for about 10 years. Your brother is the sales manager and you find out recently that he's been pocketing a handsome sum of money from many different sources, and using the business for his personal gains. So far, you've proven his guilt to just over $100000 in fraudulent activities, and he's suspected of much more. You try to fire him which makes him angry and on new years day when nobody is working, he breaks into the office and steals all the important company documents needed to run the business. Because he's the sales agent, he tells all the suppliers and customers that the company is going bankrupt and all your connections are scared and pull away their investments in your company.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

First, I punch him right in the mouth....

Second, I get a lawyer on retainer... Brother or no, he's scum, and should be prosecuted immediately....

Third, contact all known vendors and suppliers and customers, and inform them that business is indeed still on..

What a jackass!

Man, that is totally jacked up.

File criminal charges against him.

You must have back up documentation, contact your customers and explain the entire situation, otherwise, they will believe your brother.

Get a lawyer.

Now.

You need competent legal advice, not the advice of eighteen year old technogeeks.

hehhe... i don't that that would matter much...

as an addendum.. i'd also take an out in the local newspaper if your business is community-focused, and explain that you are still open and welcoming customers. You don't have to give them the dirty details, just explain that any rumours as to the companies demise are greatly exaggerated..

Call a lawyer. Best advice I can give you.

And if you'd really like to get the word out, call a local news station. They'd EAT UP a story like this.

any time this kind of thing happens w/in a family it becomes very complicated.

if it were me and my brother, i could forgive him and let all the money stealing go.

but when he tells all the suppliers and customers the company is going out of business, well, that just crosses the line.

good luck, there are no easy solutions and no quick fixes.

Cut off his nuts so he can't reproduce.

Seriously, get a lawyer and give the cops a call to see if they can do anything.

Inform the IRS of his activities, they just love to crawl all over peoples finances. He will have to spend so much to keep from being nailed for Tax evasion that he won't ever see a dime of money again.

Next, if you are insured, contact the insurance companies, let them prosecute hime.

Retain a good lawyer first and formost. One who will not only go after him in civil court, but one who will also advise you and help you press all the criminal charges you can.
