you can't get a Minivan with Power operated sliding doors, leather etc for less than 30k.

the domestic minivans of early 90's were not as reliable as japanese ones but that is really changing as american cars are bringing their manufacturing process to the levels of japanese. The last review of minivans I read the toyota sienna came 1st, honda odyssey 2nd dodge caravan 3rd. Also a new nissan minivan looks pretty cool. Just check out reviews for minivans, read more of em before spending so much money. Minivans of today are so much more advanced and with better features than they were in early 90's late 80's. Seats now fold, or roll out easy, creating a lot of space easily. I don't know about leather/accessories, try it out for yourself, perhaps getting those leather seats/whataver fancy things you won't even have use for them, focus on practicality :p

seriously, for me, the minivan is for me or my wife to transport our kids in, when i arrive somewhere with my kids, looking "hip" is the single most important thing on my mind.

No but seriously what I mean is, don't you have any friends or siblings or coworkers that would sort of giggle about the fact that you drive a minivan? Honest question.
I'm curious about your age... honest question. Really, it is.

he is 23 i think he has claimed, or in that area.

he has NO clue wtf kids require, no CLUE HTF to transport them, their friends AND their toys.

<-- has no experience with kids, but has ideas and plans of what it takes

I've voiced my age several times. I'm 23, but mentally I'm much older. But in many ways, much younger.

I think less of the former and more of the latter.

Why did you expect a loaded minivan to be less than $30k? I think that's actually a good deal for what you get.

And what do you drive, a Honda Civic?
Whatever car he drives, he probably bought it for himself. Go thank Mommy & Daddy for your car again real quick will ya

EDIT BTW, the 06 Civics are REALLY REALLY nice cars. They aren't the cheap econoboxes they used to be; no luxury car by any means, but better quality than most domestic cars that cost thousands and thousands more. Again, talking about what you don't know.

practicality is actually quite important.
I'm glad you and your wife have brains. Not being ugly, I seriously am glad. Thank you.

Going by your statements alone, I'd assume you would never be caught dead in a minvan, and therefore have never driven one. I've driven both. Minivans are based on car chassis. SUVs and full size vans are based on truck chassis.

O RLY? Many SUVs are based on car chassis. Depends on the SUV. And I guess it depends on what you'd call "better handling."
Crossover SUV's are based on car chassis, most are built off truck frames. Again talking about what you don't know...

I'd say that's accurate.

Versatile? It means you're breaking the car's suspension/tire hold on the ground, that's not exactly what non-idiots call versatile.

I just read this whole thread. Wow the ownage is strong here.

My thoughts

1) Buy a car for what you're going to use it for
2) Whenever practical, buy used
3) If you still want an SUV, unless you're offroading more than one month out of the year or towing a boat and hauling your whole family for more than a month out of the year, you are better off for the money either driving your second car or renting an SUV for that brief time you need it
4) the part about people giggling at minivans being from jr-high is completley true and well put. I don't give a sh!t what it looks like. I want a car that does what I want it to do, do it well and do nothing else.

Dont listen to these asshats especially Gatsbey who reminds me of the guy everyone hates because no matter what you are talking about he knows it all has already done before it all just bigger and better....

Unless he has driven the new sienna or ody he needs to shut the fvck up..case in point he states he has driven a minivan numerous times then replies that it was an older 5 yr old american van..which will not compare to the sienna or ody

from edmunds on the ody "Agile, carlike handling"

plus

3.5-liter VTEC engines rated at 244 horsepower, and are mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The difference is that one is classified as an i-VTEC featuring Variable Cylinder Management (VCM, standard equipment on top trim levels). VCM increases fuel-efficiency by "shutting off" three of the engine's six cylinders during cruising and deceleration, and switches back to using all six cylinders when added power is needed. The VCM system, noted to increase fuel economy by as much as 12 percent over the regular VTEC V6, is virtually undetectable. As an added bonus, Honda Odyssey models with VCM are extra quiet because they're equipped with Active Noise Control (ANC) technology that works with the audio system to effectively cancel inherent noise produced by the VCM system (along with some road noise).

anyways back on point..

my preference is either the ody or sienna..and yes with all the neat things they will run up to and exceed 30k....

but there is no replacing the practicality, convenience and room of a minivan for hauling the family...especially on those long family trip and vacations and the new ody even has middle-row rolldown windows.

For us, it wasn't so much that we couldn't make our car work (2000 Ford Taurus), it's just that on trips, we had the car completely crammed and it was very inconvenient.

When we got married, we never wanted to be those minivan people either. When you actually have kids, you change. You realize that function is so much better than form in this class. You're only hurting yourself if you can't get over the "image" and have to get an SUV instead of a minivan.

Minivans are designed to move people and their stuff. They do it *far* better than an SUV does.

We ended up paying about $35k for our Sienna XLE with a DVD player and navigation. Yes, it was expensive, but so worth it.

i been looking for a a mini-van myself. We want 4 doors with 4 captian chairs and the hide away seats. kinda shocking to see they are $30k =

we had a Ford freestar ffor a week (on vacation) and it was great. I really liked the vehicle just wish it was a little longer in the back. not sure if they have the extended version or not haven't looked into it yet.

For those wondering why with 2 kids he wants one its easy. IF you go to see family its nice having a mini-van. We had (grr wife wrecked it) a taurus that was fine with 1 child. But there was times we would run out of room going to see family out of state. rather amazing how much stuff you need for kids heh.

as for the "Hip" factor. He has kids. being hip is over.

Thanks Dad!!

Exactly.

"I'm a little spoiled brat, and received my affluent parents' hand-me-down SUV, therefore I've decided to take the stance that SUVs must be superior to other vehicles. Also, despite my self-proclaimed super-model looks and above-average intelligence and work ethic, I'm still so fvcking insecure that I worry what my "freinds" might think about me based upon the brand of vehicle I drive."

You're faux persona is slipping, Gatsby. You might want to slow down and cover your tracks a bit.
