you can't get a Minivan with Power operated sliding doors, leather etc for less than 30k.

i love how they bias these things.

first of all, you can usually get a similarly equiped american car for $2000 or $3000 less than the toyota or honda.

next, the biggest difference in cost is based on the Depreciation number, which is based on the wrong price.

Theotretically, you could fit 2 adults and 3 kids in a Civic, but that isn't the point. Convenience for one. Second, what if your kid wants to bring a buddy along? Maybe the wives are getting the kids together for a play date and don't want to take 2 cars. Maybe Grandma and Grandpa don't want to have to take a seperate car to go out to dinner with you and your family. Hey, maybe the kids like to ride their bikes at the park, or you want to take a wagon with you to the zoo.

As a parent with 2 kids, a minivan would be SO MUCH BETTER than either of our cars ('99 civic and '01 escape). There are MANY times where seperate cars are taken to go to the same place with some other people. If we had a minivan, it wouldn't have been necessary.

I know we wouldn't consider having a third child unless one of our vehicles was replaced with a minivan. For one, how about saftey? Ever try fitting a booster seat, a toddler seat, and an infant seat in just the back row/seat of a car/suv? Just how secure do you think they were? Not to mention, how comfortable is that for the kids to be all crammed together like that?

From my personal experience growing up, the booster seats were fine sitting in the back of a car, since seeing as only the lap belt (pre-latch system) is required to hold down the booster seat, it would perform the same in either a minivan or a sedan. As for the comfort of kids, I never really had such an issue where I would be bothered by the proximity of my siblings. As for the bringing a friend along, I guess you would need the bigger car there, but my point was to show that all (or at least most) can be done with a sedan. You don't necessarily have to narrow the category down to minivans.

why not?

most families have 2 cars, we are no exception, i drive around in my olds intrigue and i love the car even tho it's 7 yrs old. for my wife and our family as a whole, we like having a minivan. minivans give us LOTS and LOTS of options and as i said in another thread, we always have family over, my parents, her parents, my sisters family, her sisters and husband etc.

mb it's different for other nationalities but in korean families we tend to do a lot together, and whenever one of those weekends comes up, it is soo much better to have a minivan, shy is that hard to understand?

Its usually more than $2K or $3k if you wait for rebate season, aka August through December. :) I'm hoping for a $5k rebate on a Saturn Relay just in time for my 2nd kid to be born in September.

Wow that sucks. I was riding in the front seat with no seat belt from the day I could walk.
Crying shame the car didn't run into anything.

Did your parents car(s) have airbags back then too? These days, if just being in the front and in an accident doesn't kill a kid, the airbag might take care of it.

I believe there were airbags back in... 1996. Too bad it didn't go off prematurely.

Just for the record: I'm not having any "understanding problems".

Alright then, cost over 5 years is identical if you get the huge discounts on Domestic. Still no reason not to get the better vehicle.

Intellichoice TCO:

Odyssey Target Price = $29,317 TCO = $37,668
Sienna Target Price = $27,813 TCO = $37,856
Uplander Target Price = $21,518 TCO = $37,153

and why is it better? cost of ownership is similar, cost to maintain is similar?

so it seems to me, there isn't that much that separates them other than cosmetic stuff. so you are going to convince me that you think the Sienna is the better looking vehicle?

amazing how so many of these japanese vehicles are better arguements come down to subjective things.

they are better because "the interior materials are better" they "feel better" they "arent as loud on the interior"

but the real world test for you is: can they hold up to kids, and i know for a FACT that the nice (really nice, im not kidding) interiors on VW, Hyundai's cant hold up to kid abuse. but GM's can.

Why did the mods unban JLGatsby?
Why do people argue with MIKEMIKE in car threads when everyone knows he's a wet behind the ears GM fanboy?

You can get a loaded minivan used for under 30K. Just about any vehicle capable of toting around with loaded options will cost you over 30K.

why would i buy a used minivan when that's what i have now.

the whole point of buying a NEW vehicle is to get a NEW car. not to buy a used one.

as to the GM fanboy comment, he's no more extreme than all these honda or toyota fanboys that are here all the time.

fact is, i will buy either domestic or korean.

A 1-2 year old car isn't much different than a new car, you won't notice any significant difference. But you should know that at this point in your life.

So if this is just a rant, it's a weak one and it sucks. :D It's like asking why you can't get a decent engagement ring for under $1,000.
Just buy the damned car and get it over with, you know you want to!

Shush kid, I was poking fun at you. Take it in stride. You're like sheepathon, except with GM/Z06. I well into my education before you were born.

Analyzing the benefits of ownership of a vehicle from data collected from a website is like saying you're great in bed because you've watched a lot of porn. :D

Odysey doesnt have the best reliability i believe the Sienna to be one of the best in the market, but the town&Country just sweep the floor on everyone, but they are all expensive.

I know that and I would never buy an American minivan unless I got a super killer deal with an extended warranty.

Sienna and Odyssey would be at the top of my list.
