Chris Taylor was my HERO for the longest time, but he has been nothing but a disappointment the last couple years. It looks like he forgot what makes a fun game. SC2 was GARBAGE!!!

He didn't make SC2 - Square Enix did.

Naval units stretch goal achieved, commander figures added to rewards, metal planets/"death stars" coming at $1.5M.

Really glad to hear we'll have naval units. The other stretch goals sound cool but not as awesome as naval units and water planets.

I find gas giants yawn-worthy, but then, that stretch goal also includes orbital stuff. Hopefully that stuff remains relevant on planets other than gas giants.

I'm guessing they foresee the "death stars" to be the cool part of the $1.5M goal, but I think the lava has potential to be more interesting. If only you could manipulate/channel the lava and use it offensively...

10 days to go and the daily pledges seem to have somewhat slowed down to $30k-ish. Interesting to see what happens. KS's always pick up a bit at the end, so we should hit the 1.5M goal at least, maybe the next stretch after that if Uber doesn't get too greedy.

I have to say I like the already-realized extra bonus of commander miniatures. 🙂

I think they have been getting 80k a day and there is always a surge at the end of kickstarters. I think 1.8 million is a given but the (probably) 2 million stretch goal is the hard part.

Actually I was watching it all day yesterday...they did $100K in roughly 24 hours. Looks like they'll pull 60-80K today. Still, really awesome.

FYI, I posted this in another thread (but was pointed here), I (James Pikover, the guy who previewed the Kindle Fire tablets) wrote up a ton of info on PA. Didn't get to play it, but I sat down with Jon Mavor (Creative Director on the game) at Uber. You can read a ton of cool info about it here.

And honestly, I'm not looking forward to more than 5 games in the next year...but PA is at the top of that list. Used to rock TA hardcore back in the day. Loved that game, and I'm really excited with the direction that PA is heading in.

They should do the orchestral - that's what made TA. Not only if they get $2 million.

Not sure if Jeremy Soules is involved again.

If it keeps going at this rate we might have orchestral score in less than an hour. 🙂 I couldn't care less about the documentary, but it would be nice all the same.

well, i mean major kickstarter projects. i'm mostly leery that they'll try to monetize it additionally in some stupid way that will have a negative impact on gameplay. i'm also concerned that the game might be too simplified in unit variety and strategy. the scope of the types of planets and things they're adding make me think other things will suffer. it just feels like they're biting off more than they can chew.

Lets hope for the best I guess. I have played around with creating a Kickstarter project before and it's not easy to come up with reward lvl's and stretch goals. I guess they just had to come up with something to make it look interesting.

When you look at the Orchestral score stuff. 100k will simply let them hire someone full time to handle the composing and the musicians. But it seems realistic!

they've stated that they believe a free to play model doesn't really work for RTS. hope they hold true to that.

You do realize you have these concerns before we've even seen a screenshot right? Brian Fargo's been raving about how much more efficient the development process is when you cut out the publishers. I would hope that holds true for RTS as well as RPG. 🙂

Glad to see that, I'm disappointed they didn't make that included in the 900K.

Honestly the fact that they didn't gave me a serious amount of hope for this. Improved soundtracks are great, but all games (and I'd say RTS especially) are decided by the game-play. If money was tight, I'd much rather have better gameplay and a mediocre soundtrack than the opposite.

Music can make a huge difference in the feel, fun and professionalism of a game. Simply for adding that goal doesn't mean that development of other parts will have to suffer.
Also keep in mind that this Kickstarter is not what they hope to make. It simply is so that they can develop it enough to possibly pitch it to get more funding. 2 mil. is really not a whole lot when you talk about a few people working full time.
