Ask for a promotion instead but keep your pay rate.
there's nothing for me to get promoted to.
Whoa if there's nothing for you to be promoted to then your yearly raise is the least of your concerns...
its a small manufacturing company. there's only 2 people in the IT dept - my boss and myself.

i've been looking for a new job ever since i started...
as i already said at least twice in this thread, i am actively looking, but there isn't a whole hell of a lot thats out there. the stuff that is out there pays too low or i don't have any experience or knowledge.

I make so little right now that getting even 10% raises each year would put be back several years of what I need to be earning to live a decent life and being able to move out. I dug myself a pretty big hole accepting less than 30k for my current job.

You need an attitude adjustment. Your constantly thinking of why you can't do something. I'm always thinking how I can do something. Which attitude better serves your interests in life? You've gone no where with your current attitude...i think its time for a change.
EDIT: since when is 50 miles a 3 hour commute? Are you on rollerblades?

i love how atoters think everything is simple. hey, just move. i can't afford a place in a low income area now, what makes you think i can afford a place somewhere else?
oh thats right, they're all millionaires already so money doesn't matter to them.

This year, I've just decided not to fill out my self evaluation and not even expect a raise. Much less stress.

gee, maybe because there are valid reasons for it?
i never said 50 miles was 3 hours. i said that my search radius is already 50 miles from home. i don't want to drive any further than that.

lol, man, are people here that out of touch with reality or what? yes, people do make less than 30k full time. not everyone make 100k+ a year like you all seem to think. i was making 28k full time at my previous job. i started this job at 30k and i'm currently at 33k
